Can I see your kitchen desk?
Comments (29)Here is a picture of our desk area. Sadly it took me almost a year before I questioned why all our mail stacks were on the counter when we had a desk area and file cabinet. From the forum, I found a good file cabinet organizer. I use it to put the sorted mail in a folder instead of creating several stacks of sorted mail. It is also useful when we have things in transit - like an order that is supposed to be picked up in 3 weeks - I file it in the cabinet. One good suggestion from my KD - we made the desk counter height. We have a bar chair there. You can't see it in the picture, but recently I bought a desk top shredder. Even better to help get my mail stack problem under control....See MoreCan I see pics of microwave in your island? My pic included.
Comments (6)First, congrats on building your new house! Very exciting. My MW drawer isn't in our island so no picture, but in addition to the electrical question I'm wondering: It looks in your picture like the island counter has an overhang of several inches on all 4 sides (can't tell for sure) and a corbel in the center of each side. Where were you planning on placing the MW? Under the corbel? That seems awfully low. Or were you thinking of having 2 corbels on either side of the MW space? That would make sense to me so it could be higher, but you wouldn't want much overhang above it. So my preference would be sink side, centered between 2 corbels, with only a standard counter overhang. For an under-counter MW, I really like having a drawer, so you can place and retrieve items from above. (That's personal preference though.) natevalsmom - beautiful kitchen! Love your colors, lights, valances, and especially that island counter....See MoreCan I see your 15' (or less) cabinets please?
Comments (10)I'd really rather not do a pullout. I only have three base cabinets plus a corner in this kitchen. I am having trouble with the darn corner. My options are A) 16" drawers, 36" bifold corner, range, 26" drawers, B) 21" drawers, 39" blind corner with 12" opening (15" cabinet), range, 23" drawers, or C) 21" drawers, (empty space in the corner), 15" drawers, range, 23" drawers. I was planning on option B, but cabinet man #2 thinks that I won't be able to reach anything in that blind corner, and would rather do option A. Cabinet men #3 & #4 think its fine to do option B. Cabinet man #1 is still getting back to me. I'd like to use cabinet man #2 based on previous work and price, but if he's not going to do it the way I want it, then previous work and price don't really matter. Because these are custom, the numbers don't have to be common sizes... in option B, for example, I can go with a 39" blind cabinet with a 14" opening and a 17" cabinet and then have a 21" set of drawers, if you think that's better. I hope that all makes sense. Its a very small kitchen and I am trying to use every inch of space. I'm at a loss. If this kitchen was about 6" wider, I'd be perfect. Thanks for all the help!...See Morecan i see your islands w/ baking center?
Comments (10)Our whole island is at a lower height for baking and prep (33"), including where the prep sink is. It would've been my preference, when planning, to have the sink at standard height if I could have, but I don't have any problem using it at the lower height. If you decide to do the 2 different heights, I'd put it in the higher part for 2 reasons...1)You work down in the sink, so putting it lower risks back discomfort, and 2) I wouldn't want to crowd the rolling/kneading space. If you're doing a small section like Bluekitobsessed, it's limited enough and I wouldn't want a sink to make it smaller. (I rolled out dough for cinnamon rolls this morning that would've taken her whole lowered section...Which means it's about the perfect size, but wouldn't be if there was a sink in it.)...See Morenomorebluekitchen
