Decora Kitchen Cabinets

Decora is not all that if you go out and compare to other cabinets of like value. If you know what to look for you will notice the poor workmanship. The end grains are rough, the edge of all panels are rough and a darker shade, the hardware for the waste basket cabinets is flimsy and sways when opening, they don't provide a tall door for their tall utility cabinets; instead they provide you with two doors one over each other and held together (on the back side of door)with a block of wood secured with dry wall screws. Any professional cabinet maker would not dare produce such a shoddy design. Why they do not make a tall single panel door for the tall utility cabinets is beyond me. I have never seen anything like that before. The tapered range hood is also flimsy and cheap looking. It looks like it is made of 1/4" plywood and moldings one can buy at Home Depot. It's not really a hood but the illusion of one since all it is a panel in between the wall cabinets that give a superficial appearance of a hood. And it's the only hood they offer unless you want to go for more $$$.

The door styles, glazes and finishes are beautiful but the workmanship is not up to par.

Ughh, I just ordered Decora. I'm hoping your opinion is a dissenting one because we thought the quality seemed higher than other lines we were looking at...

Everything I have read up until this post about Decora cabinets has been good. We are planning on ordering our cabinets right after the holidays. I'm hoping this is one complaint in a sea of many compliments.

Just checked their website and I think you are right--the Marquis is the only textbook contemporary doorstyle they have. Others that are clean lined and crisp could be used also--Rivington, Artisan, Harmony and Yardley are a few examples. If you wanted any glass fronted doors, the Marquis may not be your best choice.

For one thing, I ordered inset cabinetry. Most of the doors have to be carefully opened and closed together or they knock into eachother and won't close. Decora rep said "thats a risk with inset cabinets." This photo represents another problem that has appeared in a few places of my kitchen. I am grinning and bearing these cabinets until one day when I can justify replacing them! I have a bathroom with Omega cabinetry that has been nothing but beautiful and functional since day 1.

I'm in the process of picking out a white. They carry Sherwin Williams. I happen to love Benjamin Moore White Dove. They "say" they can match but I don't know if they can exactly.The only SW white that comes close to BM White Dove is SW Westhighland White. BM is a much better quality paint.

We are currently thinking of picking up the Decora line. I have yet to see one; I'm interested because there are more options than the other Masterbrand line (Diamond) that we carry.

Bertch Legacy, as far as I'm concerned, is the bomb diggety. Thicker plywood sides, no finish issues so far, free hardware, the people at the factory are a joy to deal with... I imagine their pricier lines are even better, but for semi-custom, after 'kicking the tires' on our other lines, Legacy is it.

Any customer of ours that has a Bertch kitchen does nothing but sing praises. If I ever remodel, it's what I'm getting.

Interesting that you just registered today.

I have both Decora and Bertch Legacy in my kitchen and I find them comparable. I would have had all Decora but I didn't like their cream color. They have now have a cream color I would have used. Any issue I had with either of them was fixed immediately. My friend has a full kitchen of Decora cabs for over 2 years and has had no problems. My other friend has had a built in media center from Decora cabs in her family room for about 10 years and they still look brand new.

My end grains were fine as well as the edge of the panels.

My friends and I have had nothing but enjoyment from Decora and they look great!

Well, I just ordered Decora cabinets yesterday after two months of looking at cabinets. Rutt and Plain & Fancy was not in our budget, and I couldn't have been happier with the life-time guarantee with Decora.

chicagochristina--thank you for your kind words regarding my kitchen.

Decora now has a color called antique bronze that they didn't have when I was picking up out my colors. The other colors they had were too white. I wanted a warmer color instead of a cool one.

I have Decora cabinets that so far after 11years look fabulous. I did the Arlington Cherry and find them just as superior as the higher end brands I am looking at for my new home currently under construction. I will say that the hinges are terrible but the condition arised well after the warranty expired. Mine are stained cherry and I am totally satisfied with them. I would order again if the color I desired was available..

I was talking to a friend who says that the painted Decora made in Haymarket Va seems to be a " bad " batch in her opinion. She mentioned patch chipping after only a few years, also after warranty. She mentioned her sisterin law had the same problem with the same manufacturer in Va. I am in Va but did not find where mine came from years ago.

Please, avoid Decora at all means. We had a very, very horrible experience with Decora when we did our kitchen remodel around Sept. 2011. The whole project was delayed for more than 4 weeks due to their problems. Look at the video here:
