That is exactly like mine. We ended up going with wood because the neck of our gooseneck faucet is only about 1/100 inch from the sill. This is something important you want to take into consideration to make sure your faucet fits and that the handle on your faucet won't be limited on hot and cold if its a front/back hot cold faucet. Does that make sense? We ended up keeping the wood sill and I'm happy with it because the sill itself is only about 3 inches deep. A granite sill would have been difficult to tie into the wood casing around the window on the left, top, and right sides. hope that helps.

It better, because that's what I'm going with. I currently have a trim-less window. The tile backsplash covers the sill area. Lots of wet things end up there and I don't have to worry about the wood or paint being impacted. I'd never heard of running a strip of counter material (in my case, quartz) on the sill and initially it sounded awful. But after I looked at pics, I decided it looked fine, and then I will continue to have an impervious surface in that area.

If you have beadboard below the sill (for 1 inch, it sounds like), it seems that the sill should be wood. I'm not sure how granite, beadboard, granite will look... but then you should know that I think in general that windowsills should be made of wood, so my opinion is biased in that direction.

I think it also depends on the granite color. If it blends with the color of the beadboard, or if it is a big contrast. I'd think if a blending color, it would be more acceptable on the sill. Bottom line, if it were mine I'd keep the wood sill.

A picture would be helpful (yeah, this from someone who doesn't even know how to post a pic!!! LOL.)

It depends on how deep your window sill is, and if you'd be willing to raise the backsplash below the window to cover the full 5" height. I wouldn't want 1" of beadboard between the back splash and the sill.

We have a granite window sill, and we love it. Our back splash hits the bottom of the sill, and the sill is 9" deep since we have thick walls.

I'm leaning toward a wood sill, but I'm making so many decisions right now anything could change in a minute!

I really like the idea of a granite windowsill, but given your description, I'm not sure this is the place for one. It just sounds overly crowded in your space.

One of the most valuable lessons I've learned here is check everything. Having been warned about faucets that don't have enough room behind them for the lever to fully extend, that was something I discussed with the granite guys when we were talking about sink cut-out and faucet placement. It's often the little stuff that comes to bite you, hopefully not too hard.

I definitely agree with the trickiness of clearance around the faucet - we ended up forgoing all of the trim along the bottom of our window to help with that - I was not sure how it would look, but the simplicity of it has really grown on me and it is a breeze to keep clean, which is nice -

The backsplash under our windows is a little higher and thicker than the rest of the backsplash. I think it helps highlight our windows. I love the stone sills.

what kind of faucets are those??? I think the pics of the granite at the window looks very clean and crisp.

i would stick with wood. think it is more in keeping with the original architecture of the house. keep in mind this is coming from someone who was never a fan of the stone as sill look.

I agree with Babushka and those that say too many material changes in a small space might look awkward.

What about skipping the 4" stone strip and just using beadboard? I'm also not a fan of more than one material as a bs. The 4" strip has been disucssed many times if you do a search. Many consider that look with something else above to be dated. I'm not trying to criticize, just warning. Too many decisions makes one a bit crazy, huh?!

We had our sills done in soapstone after seeing two other houses who did this as well. We also had them box out the window so we have a slightly deeper sill, we can put small plants, or other knicnacks there. Won't ever have to paint the sills! I love the look. will try to post some photos...
