Updating Master Bath - Need help and suggestions

Originally posted in bathroom, but that forum doesn't get as much activity as the kitchens.

I'm updating the master bath. Planning on changing out the vanity/top, changing out the faucets, painting, lighting and changing the the oak trim around the windows to painted trim. Not planning on changing the tile at all.

Looking to replace the double bowl 72" vanity(Bertch Bath) with another 72" vanity with a little different configuration. Thinking of a 27" sink base, 18" 3 drawer base and another 27" sink base. Then replacing the mirrored medicine cabinet with a counter wall cabinet.

Not sure if I should do painted or stained cherry cabinets. Looking for comment/suggestions. How tall should I get the counter wall cabinet? I have a 96" ceiling in the bathroom. How many drawers in the counter wall cabinets.

Here's a picture of the current vanity cabinet. I'll be posing other pics right after this one.

Here's a inspiration picture of a similar layout that I saw. In this setup the cabinet was a 24" sink base, 24" 3 drawer base and another 24" sink base. I think the drawer base looks to wide. The counter top cabinet in this setup is 18" x 51"

do you have any follow-up on your project? I saw the same picture and others showing wall cabinets resting on counter.

Have you looked at the pictures on Houzz? I hear your concerns about too much going on with the mix of elements - stacked stone, travertine tile, and something else on the floor. It will take careful designing to pull off a well thought out scheme. Just because it looks cool in the store doesn't mean it is the best for your space. To me, matching the travertine color with the floor might be tough. take a look at this link to help with the photo posting, to allow multiple posts. My tub was from 1999 so way worse! Yours does not look bad! I updated 3 years ago to a free standing tub and love it! You will have to replace flooring though since it will show on a free standing tub. You will also have to fix the walls where the tile was. We did a total master bath remodel. My recommendations would be to go to a large bath/kitchen showroom and sit in some tubs to see how you like them! Also to figure out the size you want. Most run very large. I am only 5'2" so didn't want a 7' tub where I would just float around in! Mine is 5 feet I think and its perfect.

I think it looks fine. I would update the mirror and potentially the vanity light. You could do a warmer beige on the walls, but the existing color looks ok to me. Maybe some type of artwork on any open wall. Teal is a pop of color for artwork that works well against a beige wall, in my opinion.

Thank you! It isn't Revere Pewter (that's our kitchen/family rm). I painted the vanity SW Neutral Ground (same as trim) and the walls Neutral Ground at 150%. I like it a lot. I no longer dislike Neutral Ground, it is actually a really pretty color and works well in our lighting. Not to mention looks great against black items, furniture, pics, etc.

I almost went with the countertop cabinet, but then decided it just stops my eye TOO much, and started to look stuck on, and I dreamed of whacking my elbow on it every time I brushed my teeth,lol!

Well, I did give you a detailed response, posted a photo, and never got a response! Most people won't keep responding to a thread when the OP doesn't show the courtesy to acknowledge those who have taken their time to think about your project. Hope your Kitchens experience is a better one!

I do not care for the look of the countertop cabinet at all. Do you really need the extra storage? I'm in the minority and like mirrored medicine cabinets, esp. like the one you have, with wings for seeing the sides and back of my hair.

I think your measurements are right on and should work out great.

We are doing a similar layout in our master bath. The cabinet designer recommended bringing the countertop cabinet to the ceiling to make it easier to select a mirror height on either side and so the different heights did not conflict visually to the eye. I've also seen photos of electrical plug-ins built into the bottom drawers for a curling iron or shaver, but due to code here we can't have them. :(

We are also only having one drawer in the countertop cabinet. Mostly due to cost and there being a dressing area with a built-in makeup desk with drawer stack and shelving just off the bathroom.

starben62 - No update since I just started on it.

springroz - The phone is gone now. Thought it was a good idea when I did it years ago. I actually put a phone outlet in every room.

may_flowers - Sorry I didn't respond to your posting in bathrooms forum. I usually try to respond to everyone.

linelle - If I do away with the mirrored medicine cabinet, I won't have storage for those items which are currently in there. I also thought that I could put a cabinet over the toilet if I didn't do the counter cabinet.

xc60 - Not 100% sure about going to the ceiling with the counter cabinet. In your layout, I think it will look good since your have a wider layout. I agree with your cabinet designer regarding the conflict visually with the eye. The one problem that i can see with not going to the ceiling is that the top will collect dust.
