Undermount Blanco Sink/Soapstone countertop
Comments (5)I have an Artisan stainless undermount sink with soapstone. The guys who installed the soapstone added wood supports to the sides of my sink cabinet. The sink rests on the supports. The soapstone was placed over the sink and then silicone caulk was used to seal it. I don't remember if they also used an adhesive. I did not want my seam in the middle of the sink, so it was placed to the left of the sink (you can see where the seam will be in the first picture.) This shows the wood support on the left side of the sink cabinet Here's the installed sink. And finally, the soapstone...See MoreNew Soapstone/Marble Counters are in!!!!!
Comments (18)Thanks Yesdear....I love the Brazilian Black, it had just been oiled when I took the pictures. It is really a dark gray and I prefer it unoiled, but I'm not totally sure one way or the other (I like that it looks good both ways). It has hints of green and even a carmel area. I got it at Soapstone Werks. They told me that the stone is almost impossible to get anymore, so I guess we were lucky...I picked it out back in March. Funny thing about the seams...there are a lot, they are well done and don't show as much when it's just been oiled (today they show a bit more). There is one at the center of the sink, one before the angle in the corner by the cooktop, and the two rails of the cooktop are separate pieces also. With all the angle changes in the kitchen a variety with heavy white veining would have looked funny. Re: the baking area. It will have the coffee pot and toaster over there with MW underneath, so there won't be a ton of space. I might use this area as the "bulters pantry" when we have bigger groups over. The real drop zone is being constructed as a niche mudroom off the garage door (next to the laundry room where we most commonly enter the house). Also, there is a free standing hutch next to the Fridge which will have our glasses/dishes, silverware, dishes and kid snacks & probably a junk drawer. I lucked out on the sink, it's in it's original location and I loved it other than the DW used to sit within 3" of the sink edge, putting a bigger cabinet in between really helped that. I love the sink, just wish it had running water & a drain (maybe Monday). I may replace the air gap after inspection, it's just sitting there now...I didn't have good luck with my old soap dispenser (same location) it would get to hot and leak dish soap everywhere. I'm thinking the new windows may help that....See MoreSoapstone counters - which faucet & sink?
Comments (5)You could also consider white fireclay apron front which is classic with soapstone counters. The apron front style is very ergonomic too. If you don't want a fireclay apron front, several soapstone people on this forum installed Blanco Silgranit sinks in the anthracite color, which is a black/charcoal which looks unbelievably awesome with soapstone. Although I do not have soapstone counters, I've just installed our Silgranit anthracite sink, and I am in love with it. Not just the appearance, but its ease of use, no scratching, no chippping, easy cleanability, no water spots, heat resistant to 536 degrees temperature, isn't noisy when dishes and pots land in it (teenagers). We've just come from a stainless steel sink, with its scratches and water spots, and I will never go back to stainless. Sorry to all you stainless sink fans--just MHO! The Blanco silgranit sinks come in other colors besides anthracite, like white, beige, brown and gray. But I like the anthracite color best. As to faucet, there are so many choices! You can stay traditional with a "bridge-type" faucet. If you are still under construction, you can go really traditional with a wall-mount faucet (search this forum for the threads). And there is no reason not to go super modern faucet either. I myself like the ease of a single-handle faucet. I recommend a faucet with spray in the faucet rather than a side spray--they work better, and it is one less hole in your soapstone. There was a long thread recently which I will link where people posted pics of their faucets, and you could look through there to see if something catches your eye. Here is a link that might be useful: Kitchens Forum Thread with 100+ posts of faucets...See MoreHelp with kitchen counter-tops is really needed...
Comments (42)for the handles, may I suggest something to pick up on the hues in the flooring? A little more copper toned. you have light cabs, light floors. I think throwing in a dark ORB w/o actual copper highlights would be too much of a contrast. IMO. cypress park Sandra, I like the porcelain one better than the other one. Does the backsplash have to be done immediately? If the tones in the porcelain tile you picked clash w/the ivory tones in the counter, it could be a problem. However, I did find some copper toned ones that should be avail. these are porcelain/SS, and treated so as not to stain or tarnish. I LOVE these for your kitchen. timeless and gorgeous. They are probably not super cheap, but it would be worth it for me. http://www.miusartmosaics.com/arabesque-lantern-beacon-copper-tile-in these would also work. the site is here: maybe they have them in stock.http://www.westsidetile.com/arabesque-tiles/ i like this one too. notice the copper faucet. beautiful w/the glass mosaic. if you got the cream countertop, this would look amazing w/your floors. this last one is a copper colored slate/quartzite....See MoreCircus Peanut
