I love caiques! I wish I had enough energy to keep up with one.

I wouldn't let birds near the induction cooktop when it's in use. The dishes get very hot, and parrots are too nosy to stay away. I keep my birds on the island and away from the stove which is on the peripheral wall. I think this is why islands were invented.

I read about induction and whining pots bothering dogs, and I wondered if it would affect my parrots, but they don't seem to notice (except to expect something to eat).

After I watched Zeek play I went through your other photos. We NEED the rest of the story on this house!

No words of wisdom on the cooktop. I decided to go gas since that is what I'm used to. My birds aren't allowed on the counters because they rearrange things and I can't find my stuff most of the time when I am the only one touching it! I do have a parrot stand that I sometimes let my Mullacan on to watch. I don't like the birds around food preparation unless it's for them although I don't know what the difference is between bird feathers and dog/cat hair;-)

Duh! I didnt think about the hot pots! My little guys will have to stay on the back counter, which they will HATE. My little caique is a handful. I feel like I have a two year old with ADHD. He is CONSTANTLY demanding interactive attn. He loves to snuggle, wrestle and hop. And yes! He gets into everything. And boy does he have a temper...that pig squeal is something else. He is as happy on two feet as he is lying on his back. When I come home from the store, he is lost in the grocery bags and when I hear a happy BRRR! I know he has found something with sugar in it.

pinch me, the house I purchased a few months ago in Phoenix on Camelback Mountain. It was built in 1958 by architect Al Beadle. The owner of the home owned the swanky Safari hotel. I found the original plans in the house and tried to restore the block walls out front. I gutted the house to the studs. The previous owners had done (in my opinion) some horrid things to the home. It is a true mid century home, with 128 linear feet of floor to ceiling glass. It's 3800 sq. feet with 5 bedroom, 4 full baths. It will take me awhile to redo everything. Right now, I am focusing on the kitchen, new flooring (concrete), new 6 ft. front glass pivot door, flat texture throughout, replacing the heating/cooling system and replacing the glass (!). I did splurge on a concrete ramp sink for the bathroom, but I'm on a budget and the other baths will have to wait. I am planning on custom walnut cabs. with a thin white concrete counter.

Mine are. They closely monitor dinner preparation from their gym on the island while I'm fixing food on the other counter.

Beautiful birds, warmfridge! Are those Brotogeris? Mine are also potty-trained. They go on command. I hold them over the toilet or trash and say "potty." I was completely shocked when my tiny conure learned to potty train. The caique learned right away from watching the caique. Amazingly, they will not go at night in their covered sleeping cages. They will hold it for 10+ hours (more than you wanted to know, I bet!). I dont think pple realize how intelligent parrots are. I had no idea until I bought them.

And yes, dinner is a big deal at my house also. The caique starts making microwave beeping sounds when dinner time approaches. He eagerly watches the food turn in the microwave, while the conure hangs off my shirt nibbling at my lips to feed him his favorite treat (corn).

We just installed an induction cook top and I was showing it off to my daughter. She is thinking about buying one now for her new house to provide better safety for her cats.

Warmfridge is right, be careful of your babies. Find
out if the noise will hurt or bother them. And of course
protect their toes.

Birds are pretty wise, if they see fire they avoid it
and perhaps a gas stove might be better for them as they
will see that is the area they avoid.

By the way I loooooooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeee your
birdbabies. Now I wish Santa had brought me one.

Thanks boxerspup and warmfridge. I will post on a bird forum about the noise issues with induction cooktops. boxerpups, think twice before you buy a parrot! I love them to death, but the time and attn. they require is incredible. Right now, the caique is infuriated, because I just got home and instead of getting him out of the cage right away, I spoke on the cell phone. An angry caique can be no fun (nasty bites). He attacks any of my things that he associates with me leaving...my nice boots, car keys, purse, sunglasses and cell phone. I have to hide these things from him. Even the tiny conure today nipped me when he saw me pull out a piece of luggage. Parrots are complicated, highly social animals. I must say, though, that my little conure is just a snuggly, happy little joy with fewer anger/needy issues.
