'twas the night before drywall ... A Christmas rhyme

Twas the night before drywall, when all through the house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse

The framing was done 'round the chimney with care

In hopes that the built ins soon would be there

The plumbing and wiring all snug between studs

With visions of gyproc, taping and mud

Rough-in inspections finally passed

Is it really happening so fast? (insert sarcasm here)

I in my grubbies with camera in hand

Take photos for reference if future demands

When out on the driveway there arose such a clatter

I sprang from my tripod, what was the matter?

Away to the window I flew like a flash

And pulled up the paper blinds (there isn't a sash)

When what to my wondering eyes should appear

But giant blue truck trundling near

1-800-got-trash made such a din

I knew in a moment it was a new bin

He whistled and shouted and called out some names

I don't dare repeat it, it's somewhat profane

I get it, it's late on a cold Friday night

Poor sucker still working, I'm aware his plight

Hooray for new walls! It is about time

But now I'm too tired to come up with more rhymes.

I thought to myself as he drove out of sight

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

LOL! Now THAT is mmhmmmgood! I love your kitchen all decked out for Christmas, too, sooo funny -- exactly the way I feel about my house with its missing baseboards and complete lack of furniture. Thanks for giving me a real good laugh tonight.

Oh!! I remember last Christmas when my house looked about like this.

You'll be amazed what seeing drywall hung does for your holiday look. If a few days, your kitchen will look like an actual room. You are hilarious though! Kudos for the great prose, and thanks for making me smile.

Excellent! That they would find waterskis under the tree. That should read 'surf board' - very few people 'water ski' down here. They body surf, ride boogie boards and surf boards, among other water sports, but have yet to see anyone water skiing!

Mmhmmgood, I love your poem. Perhaps if you turned on the lights of the Christmas tree you've got in your kitchen, we'd be able to see it more clearly? (wink, wink.)

Too cute! Love it!!!!! In the middle of reno. My daughter wants to come down with grandkids to bake cookies. Would be fun if we had an oven installed!

Laughing WAY out loud!

My holiday looks about the same -- again this year. Someday walls, someday trim & baseboards, someday paint. Someday at least one finished room.

Right now I celebrate having been able to hold onto the house for yet one more year.

That's a funny, funny poem.
Good job, tired one!

Just curious about the right side of your picture where it looks like a raised area? Too high for cabs but too low for an island?? Please do tell.

LOL mtnfever! On the right is actually a piece of framing that had to come down from elsewhere, placed here on my dining room floor for the time being. Behind it is the stack of sheet rock hopefully being installed as we speak. Together it looks a bit like a stage in the middle of my dining room, now that I see it with fresh eyes. I see how it could be confusing! The photo is taken from my entrance, there are two stairs to get up to the main floor. To the left is the stairs and landing that head up to the second floor. The dining room is immediately to the right/front and the kitchen is WAAAYYYY in the back behind the big beam/bulkhead. Hope that perspective helps a bit!

Thanks to all for appreciating my late night ode.

Breezy, nice to see you have internet again, I know your kitchen is fabulous so seeing your "before" helps me have hope that this process may end one day in a functional and pretty kitchen!

CEFreeman I hope you'll get your finished space sooner than later! You clearly have much more patience and tolerance than me.
