Range hoods - anyone knowledgeable about the various types?

I can't seem to get a clear cut answer regarding costs on which type of hood treatment is less and which is more expensive between the different types of hood trims. What is the usual difference in terms of the build out of a hood? Obviously the brand and type makes a difference. We're trying to stay mid-range with most of our appliances. But I don't know where to start at all without any knowledge of what I should rule out because that might be way over what we want to spend. I like several options so I could go many ways. I can't seem to put together or get a clear answer from anyone a bottom line on the whole shebang once you do the liner, the hood, the trim out (whether it's sheetrocked or cabinetry built-out, etc). Does that make sense? Can anyone give me an idea of what might be the most expensive to least expensive for a 42" hood?

a) contractor-built (I think?)

d)regular hood (I'm guessing this is the least but how much less than the next option?)
