Is there any way to fit a shallow cabinet next to fridge?

Here is my tentative plan - walls and windows are set in stone. Cabinetry is not.

The fridge will be counter depth (not a built-in). I can't move the wall next to the fridge since a small vanity needs to fit behind it.

I would love a shallow cabinet because it would be so convenient right there! (We will also have a pantry in the hall - not shown- so we do have storage space)

If a cabinet is out of the question, can shallow shelves be recessed into the wall, and then we can hinge a door over them?

Well, that depends on how deep that wall will be. I would suggest checking the specs on your fridge to see how much depth you need to cover the body plus clearance, then see how deep the vanity is (I think 22 inches might be standard counter depth?) then subtract standard wall thickness and see what you have left. There will be plumbing and electric to work around.

Here's what's behind my sink, I assume you would have something similar. You can see the two pipes coming up for the sink, and there is also a junction box up higher that isn't in there yet for the light. If you have plumbing above, you might have pipes that run all the way up.

I had the same dilemma last month. Since my cabinets are 13" deep I could not go with the many better choices available at 15-16" depth. I would have loved to get a speed oven but I had to reluctantly settle for the ZEM200SF. It is less powerful than my old 950W OTR model and of course there is lots less room. I also wish the sides were stainless, not just the front. Ridiculous to spend so much more than the PEM and not get s/s sides. So far it is adequate for what I use it for, fine for heating up, but popcorn bags get stuck on the turntable because it is so small.

I'll offer up something totally different just as an option, wire shelving units that are very functional though not as decorative as some other suggestions. You can put the shelf units wherever you want on the legs. If you place the bottom shelf at the lowest level for stability (lower than what is shown in these photos), you could then possibly place the next shelf high enough up to leave room for your feeding station. Thanks! They're Caesarstone Noble Grey. Actually quite a cool tone (we were really trying to avoid any beige, and although it looks a tiny bit beige in some of the online pics it doesn't read that way at all in person) but the hardwood really warms the whole space up. We did our kitchen as part of a massive almost-gut reno on a 110-year-old house as first-time homeowners who knew nothing about houses, renos or design. This was all done on a somewhat constrained budget (see: Ikea cabs) but we did get some layout and aesthetic assistance from a very lovely and affordable designer who gave us a good deal to help her build her portfolio, and that was some of the best money we spent.

Is it a plumbing wall? I mean, those can be thicker, which would help, but they're thicker because there are pipes in them. In my house, the older vanities all have a medicine cabinet above them recessed into the wall, so if you're after something like that, for keys or whatever, yes, but you won't be getting a lot of storage that way.

Thanks! This is why I ask GW. I didn't even consider the plumbing and wall thickness (seems stupid now!). I will check the plans to help determine the answer. I appreciate your help!

You could still have a shallow pantry ON the wall instead of IN the wall. I think 3" inside space is all you need for soup cans, boxes set the flat way, etc, etc. We are building just such a cabinet on the end of our fridge wall and grabbing the space between the studs of the fridge enclosure for a little additional interior depth. If you do an internet image search for shallow pantry you'll see all kinds of ideas.

It looks like you have lots of storage space already though... maybe that is a great place for a piece of wonderful art and keep a nice wide walkway?

Hi deedles - Thanks! My original plan was to put artwork there, but someone insisted on another thread that I would miss having that storage so close. It made me doubt my plan.

You'll want the fridge doors to open past the 90ÃÂ° shown on the plan, to remove crispers for cleaning. A shallow plate/platter rack would work--check the first couple of pics in the link:
