Sorry for the unintentional mystery everyone! I have been clearing my counters and taking pictures to try to be helpful on several threads on GW and got tired of it, so I figured what the heck, I'm actually living here, right! Anyway, my marble island is in it's 12 month of use and was etched practically on day one, and weekly since then. After my daughter shook the Tropicana OJ jug (the one that USED to be 64 oz that they redesigned with a fancy flip lid that isn't easy for kids to get to fully close) and OJ flew all over the island, I gave up with babying and use it almost without care. Cheeseburgers were on the menu last night. Anyway, you who guessed cheese are right; it is grated cheddar. The plate is one of Villeroy & Boch "Design Naif" patter. There actually isn't anything on it but the painted scene. This pattern is actually a quaint set of six different scenes on each plate. I'll show you a pic with all 6 scenes to satisfy any curiosity. On the black meat tray is some unused raw burger meat that I ended up making my dogs do tricks for after dinner. There are a couple knives and, yes, a tape measure since I was getting info to answer someone's question about the dimensions of something on my island. To the right you see some thin slices of bread that I threw out. I used Zomick's challah rolls for our burger buns and they are a bit high. To make them easier for my son to eat a burger in, and to make them slightly less carb-ful for myself and husband, I sliced out the middle. To the right of that is what's left of a large, delicious tomoato that I made a sliced tom/mozz/basil salad with. I know, horrifying that a cut tomato would be on my marble. However, we're planning to have the island honed this summer due to all the etching it has received, so it sort of doesn't matter too much. Sorry for the hijacking this thread!!!! OP - a couple of things. First, RH often has sales. If you can wait it will be well worth it! Second, buy MANY more pieces of hardware than you think you will need. Lucky for me that there is a RH store near me bc I kept having to go back, at least 5 times, to get more. I counted with my installer, three times, before shopping and bought one extra of each. Some went missing, some were defective, a few were the wrong finish and labled wrong - stuff happens. The good thing about RH is that they have a wonderful return policy. The bad thing about possibly less expensive other retailers, especially online retailers, is that they may only give store credit or may charge a restocking fee, plus online you have to pay shipping to make a return. Also, buy a sample of whatever you are leaning toward before committing fully. Sometimes what you see and what you hold and feel are two different things. Last, yes RH was a bit expensive, although I saw much more expensive as well. But, they had the variety of sizes I wanted and they feel wonderful and are very well made. FWIW, I found some bin pulls on ebay that worked fine for a mudroom bench we made. Up close they are relatively a bit cheap looking, but they are functional and look fine from a distance. Definitely personal preference. In our case, we used the same size pulls on all drawers (4"). We used one pull on drawers = 30". We have 18", 24", 27", 30", 31", 31.5", 33", and 36" drawers and, like you, the vast majority of our bases are drawer bases. The only exceptions are the sink bases and the 6" pullouts flanking the cooktop. Cup pulls vs "regular" pulls...originally I wanted cup pulls, but then when we realized that to open the bottom drawers you have to reach under to get your hand in the pull that it would be more difficult than just reaching down from the top, we went w/the "regular". In the end, I'm glad we did as I like our pulls better than the cup pulls for our cabinets & kitchen style. The issue of being able to fit my DH's bigger hands was a concern for us as well when we were considering the cup pulls; since you're also concerned, I'd buy a couple of the larger pulls and try them out. We bought several different pulls & knobs and tried them on our old cabinets to get a feel for what they would be like using them as well as to get a general idea of what they would look like. 24" Drawer, 1 pull/drawer: 27" Drawer, 1 pull/drawer: 33" Drawer, 2 pulls/drawer and 18" Drawer, 1 pull/drawer & trash pullout: 36" Drawer, 2 pulls/drawer:

To me, the how many doors on a 24" are dictated by the door style. I don't like busy. Too much eye distraction. So, I plan flat paneled doors. This means if I put two on a 24, it's just some nice vertical lines created by the frame. If I were to go with something raised panel, or a bunch of decorative molding or something, I'd go one door because it would lessen the busy-ness. If you can turn that thing into a larger cabinet, why wouldn't you? You don't like the 12....(wisely, I might add. JMO!) As far as the corner diagonal thing, I don't care for them. I prefer lazy Susans because it's a square corner. Just my OCD. Plus, there's so much hoo-ha involved with all those pull-out things, which inevitably bump and gouge the doors. A LS? you just twirl it around. If you don't like the diagonal cabinets, don't do it. It really doesn't matter what you're seeing here, unless it speaks to YOU. Fool around with the ez corner thing. Perhaps the base cabinets can be modified to look cohesive.

re: cow names - I was a city kid moved to dairy country. Learned all those terms, but the hardest to remember/figure out was Polled Herford vs heifer. And with horses, the difference between a colt and a foal, colt being kind of the generic term many use incorrectly for a foal. That definitely wasn't the limit to my ignorance about country living, that's for sure, but the folks there were equally ignorant about some of the things those of us raised in the city were more familiar with. Usually it has nothing to do with brain power, just exposure. One of my favorite stories about common sense is a cousin who married young, with no domestic skills at all (her mother did everything for her). I was visiting and her husband went to the kitchen to get us some refreshments. He call out, "Susie, why did you put the ice cube trays in the freezer without filling them with water?" She replied, "But we didn't NEED ice cubes." She's not lived that one down.
