30 inch range vs. cooktop/wall oven vs. 36 inch range
Comments (1)I can answer the BS oven door question. My 36" BS RCS was installed two days ago (haven't used it yet, hopefully this weekend). During the burn off of the oven (high temp is 450 F for an hour) I checked how hot the oven door got, as that has been a big issue noted on these boards. On my range, the SS part of the oven door did not get hot, just a bit warm. The glass on the oven door got hotter but not that hot. What did get quite hot were the sides/edges of the oven door. I could touch the side but not for long. Definitely quite hot. Not instant burn/scald though. There are vents (or look like vents) right there so it makes sense that those areas heat up a lot. Your kids would have to press their hands up against the 2" side of the door for several seconds for it to affect them negatively. More likely a kid running around will touch the front of the door and that is not a problem, on my range at least....See MoreWill a 30 inch wall oven fit inside a 30 inch cabinet?
Comments (8)I'm not fond of a triple stack in a single cabinet. It puts the bottom appliance at an unusable height, so it never gets used. I'm also not fond of the gutting that it takes to fit a 30'' oven into a framed 30'' cabinet. Most of the time, enough of the face frame has to be cut away that it requires reinforcing the sidewalls. I have one installer that completely refuses to do this withou a significantt extra fee, as it requires time basically rebuilding the cabinet. Each element has to have it's own platform, it's own dedicated electrical supply, (which many people forget about) and a cabinet rail between them. Even if the allowed clearances make it look as though there is no rail between the appliances, it's there, as that is how they are fastened into the cabinets. Can it be done? Yes, but not easily or cheaply. You need both an electrician to run all the new wires, and a cabinet maker to do the cabinet alterations. No handyman. No appliance installer. Someone who can take apart a cabinet, take apart a door a recut it to be shorter and put it back together, and stain some wood to match perfectly. Find the most experienced cabinet shop in town with a cranky old man working for them, and that's your craftsman....See MoreWill a 30 inch wall oven fit in a 30 inch cabinet?
Comments (20)Having seen the picture, I think it will be fine. Unless the cabinets sides are exceptionally thin, cheap and weak (as in 3/8" thick) that there will be plenty strength in the cabinet even with the 1" of the 1 3/4" face frame removed. Part of the strength the face frame gives helps to prevent racking, and the adjacent cabinets will serve amply to support that cabinet. Also I'm not sure GreenDesigns concerns about self-cleaning being a problem hold up. Since the oven could be installed in a frameless 30" wide cabinet, your cabinet will have at least that much room inside the cabinet, and likely a little bit more. (Although with that said, I've never used the self-cleaning function on my 30" wall oven (which is in a 30" frameless cabinet) so I can't say it'd be OK for certain.) I do think that the shelf that will support the oven will have to be sturdy and sturdily supported. I'd use finish grade 3/4" plywood, and substantial blocking beneath the shelf to support it -- possibly even 1/2" plywood sheets that reach from front to back of the cabinet and from the floor of the cabinet to the base of the oven shelf. Plus one across the back of the cabinet, and a new face frame piece across the front of the shelf....See MoreDrawer hardware size for large/wide drawers (30-38 inch wide)
Comments (10)I used over size pulls on my cabinets. For my drawers, I made a "rule of half". I used pulls that were approximately half as long as the size of drawer. So pretty much the same as ctycdm has. In the picture below the drawers on the left are 24 inches wide with 13 inch pulls. The 36 inch drawers in the middle have 18 inch pulls and the drawers on the right are 18 inches with 10 inch pulls. I also have some 13.5 inch drawers that have 6 inch pulls. Since I like the look of longer pulls, I used 10 inch pulls on the cabinet doors. If you google using the words gardenweb, pull size and drawers you will get lots of posts and pictures. Many GWers have only one smaller pull while others have 2 smaller pulls on wide drawers. It's completely a matter personal preference and sizes available in the hardware you like....See MoreStacey Collins
