36 inch wide vanity or 32 wide inch tub in hall bath
Comments (13)Don't base your decision on the general dimensions. You need to look at actual tubs and, if possible, sit in them. I had a similar problem to yours in that I wanted no smaller than a 27-28" shower door, which limited the width of the adjoining tub options. After a ton of searching, I finally found a couple of 30" wide tubs that had equally large interior dimensions or felt more spacious inside than others. I ended up going with a Mirabelle Edenton (60"x30"x20") air bath, which was substantially cheaper than the wider Hydrosystems Lacey (and had a larger bottom interior dimension), and more attractive and sturdy feeling than the slightly cheaper Kohler Archer (which seems very tight inside but has good bottom interior dimensions. Anyhow, I'd take a closer look at 30" wide tubs and get the vanity you want. I just posted a video of the Edenton air bath in action if you want to check it out. You can also see other posts I have made regarding it and my remodel if you cannot find it locally (the brand is only sold by Ferguson's and the affiliated Californian equivalent)....See MorePlease help - one or two pulls on drawers 30' or more wide
Comments (6)The new drawers will glide nicely if you bought good hardware--you are buying new drawers, not antique, right? We have two handles on all nine of our wide drawers. We often open them with one hand. Being able to open the drawer without standing directly in front of the drawer is wonderful--I can snag one of the open handle pulls with one finger and open a drawer while standing adjacent to it. I can reach in from the side, pull out a fork, and shut it again without moving from where I'm standing. We chose hardware that stands over an inch proud of the cabinet (using universal access concept). The double handles look sensible from an observer's point of view. Cabinet maker said hardware could take this kind of sideways stress, even with heavy contents in the drawer. We paid him for his strongest drawers and strongest glides. We tried taping our handles to the cabs and thinking about the pattern before we made our final decision. Worked for us. Knobs are more problematic--they require a full-hand grasp, not an index finger to open and you need to be more straight-on when operating drawers. Not sure how bin pulls work in this context....See Morepics of 3 inch or 4 inch cup pulls??
Comments (2)Here's a pic of the Gilmore 3" pull on our dinning room buffet. The drawer is about 19". Below, is a pic of the 3" pull when I was considering it for my kitchen drawers. I ended up using a different pull. This drawer is about 11 3/4". This final pic I have is a 4" pull. I can't remember which kitchen drawer I was holding it up to. It's between 18" - 23". Looks closer to 18"....See MoreDoes an 11-inch wide cabinet need to be a pull-out?
Comments (12)Thanks for the link, buehl! That's exactly what I was going to search for this morning. I do have a bit of wall on one side of the cabinet (the edge of an archway into the eating nook/butler's pantry--hence the need for the cabinet to create space for the refrigerator door swing) that would make the back third of a double-sided pull-out inaccessible from one side. plllog, thanks for throwing out the idea of modifying the frame. I think, though, that it's time for not letting the best be the enemy of the good, and keeping it simple just to get the thing ordered. To someone who always before has had to snake a hand into a thin crack between the wall and refrigerator to grab a broom, this will feel positively luxurious, even one-sided and a couple inches narrower than might have been possible. Thanks for all the help. This was the last cabinet detail, and the order will go in today. Well, we're still working on getting the stain right. There never is just "one" last detail, is there?...See MoreStacey Collins
