Hi nursetammi,

I saw a portion of your kitchen in another thread and I think I'm in love. Would you mind posting more photos of your kitchen? What type of cabinets do you have?

Thank you so much for your sweet comment. Here you go with the pics. I tried to give you different angles so you could see most of it. It's a pretty large open room with a kitchen and sunroom area. I live on a river and our main intent with the remodel was to enhance our view. I have been so bad and not posted to finished kitchens yet... My cabinets were done by a local cabinet maker but I tried to match one of Thomasville's cherry stains with a black forest glaze. The granite is Giallo Veneziano and the Backsplash is a 3x6 travertine tile called Scabos. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Very pretty! I can see why you wanted to maximize your views, but it is now competing with the indoors, lol.

Just curious, but how did you get that effect in your sink that looks like pebbles?

Thanks! susantiger, I checked with Lightstreams before and they make the tiles when they are special ordered. The lady was very nice but they are much more expensive and takes a long time to get. The shipping is high since we are in Orlando and they are in California. They look like they are very nice tiles though. Just-a-pb, Thanks a lot for those photos! It is exactly what I was looking for. We have built pools with other glass tile colors but not that one. I have seen the photos of your pools on other posts and you build some great looking pools! I really like how you tiled the entire inside of the spa. I am going to post a link of a pool I have on my website that we built with glass tile just in case it helps someone else out looking at this thread. So sorry that I didn't see these more recent comments. I haven't been on GW lately. Thank you for all of your enthusiasm and lovely compliments : ) I'm only home on the weekends now, since my DD's ballet training is becoming more intense in NYC. I miss my kitchen most days!! I'll try and answer all of your questions. Elisa our DCS is a few years old. We bought it before we remodeled when our old range went kaput. I love it. The five burners are amazing. I can fit SO MUCH all at once. I'll post a photo to show you what I mean. Our oven is large and has a convection fan. When we were shopping ranges, the guy at the appliance store told me it's a reliable workhorse, which it has been so far. One of my favorite features is the ultra low burner setting. When you turn the knob all the way it goes to this ultra low setting. So without having to try and adjust the flame low, you just turn the knob all the way and it goes to this setting and the flame can't go out. Even if the flame did go out, it has the self re-ignite feature. MIssy the counter are Julia Soapstone from Texeira in N.J. I adore them. Kngwd I know whatcha mean! I can't believe my "baby" is 23. When we built the house he was still in my belly! KitchenDetective the greenhouse is my husband's project. It's 60 feet long by 20 something feet wide. The cover is two layers of plastic with pumped air in between. He grows stuff in there in the summer that likes heat. But then he also plants another crop of greens, carrots, beets, etc in the late summer. The idea is to get this second crop to be full grown by the time early winter sets in. When winter sets in the plants become dormant. They don't freeze in the greenhouse because he covers the rows with plastic and they keep warm in this way. The moisture also gets trapped under the plastic so the rows stay moist without being watered. Anyway, then all winter we can go out and lift the plastic and pick fresh veggies : ) View from inside the greenhouse

LL, that copper hood would probably work really well and not seem to stick out too much too. I absolutely adore the last photo in that first link of yours even without an island. biochem, I understand. Sometimes I need to ask questions before answering too. I don't really know what my style is, since I am reusing the old cabinets and adding just a few more. I like a mix of painted and wood, love the old fashioned look, but also love traditional and a lot of the new trends. I would say that I dislike ultra sleek, and I'm not sure whether that is modern or contemporary. I want warmth and function. buehl, that kitchen isn't the finished plan, just an idea that Summerfield ran with based on my desire to have an open plan. I love the plan, but I don't know how well it will work with our limitations. The dw is actually on the other side of the sink and there is a pantry cabinet beside the dw. Summerfield drew in two new pantry units, one in front of the water heater closet, and those won't work, mainly because they close the opening to the laundry area, and that opening has to stay. I can't tell by the design if it's supposed to be an island that is all one level, or if the bar area is raised - or lowered, which might be nice. Right now there is a stacked oven unit which is to the left of the stove, across from the sink. To have an open kitchen, I'd have to get rid of that cabinet and put both ovens and the microwave under the stove counter, and then I'd lose more cabinet space. Since I'm already losing uppers over the island, I don't know if I can lose any more there. So it may have to be a peninsula instead of an island.

Personally, I think it's a great idea! I love our double ovens mounted higher than an oven in a range. It's so much easier to use! (An even bigger advantage to a single wall oven over a double is that you can mount a single at your ideal height rather than having to compromise so the upper oven isn't too high.) Where is your MW? If it's on the counter or in a separate MW cabinet that you'd like to get rid of, you could build an alcove above the oven for the MW. No need to build it in if you finish the inside of the alcove. BTW...there's no need to worry about the upper cabinet...you are going to need a 24" deep cabinet for the oven anyway. Even though you already have a convection range, I highly recommend getting another convection oven...they work both ways so you can use whatever setting you need and it gives you the ability to have two convection ovens if needed. Question: Do you know what oven you're getting yet? Have you considered a speed oven? I have a speed oven that allows me to: Speedcook using MW + convection energy, Speed broil using MW + broil Convection bake - single rack Convection bake - multi rack Convection roast Thermal bake (non-convection) Broil - Hi Broil - Low I have a GE Profile Trivection double oven that also comes as a single oven...but no longer in the Profile line, just the Monogram line. Other manufacturers also have similar like Viking, Miele, etc.

Thanks dianalo, the view is really nice, I am very fortunate. Bed and Bath Beyond or Home Goods (and I'm sure others) has these sink protectors. You have to keep cleaning them but they are pretty cheap and they do protect your stainless sinks. So many people think it's ice in my sink, it's pretty funny.

I believe it is 25x25. Here is a pic of the before, we took out the wall with the window over the sink and extended over our deck where the old kitchen table was.

Nursetammi, I am in love with your kitchen and have again fallen back in love with Cherry Cabinets. I love the stain you chosen! I also loved the Thomasville cabinets with the whiskey black glaze but I love your cabinets even more so. You have beautiful taste. I also love your poodle. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Lynn2006, where in the world did I come up with Black Forest glaze, you are right it is Whiskey Black glaze. It's been a while since I did everything and it's all coming back now. Thanks for correcting me without correcting me (lol.) Kacy says thank you for noticing him on the couch :)

April_love, I wanted to tell you the cabinets are alder wood, my cabinet maker (which was from Prague) liked working with it and said they would look cherry but felt they would be more durable.They have finally gotten their test with our newest addition Kacy, the white cockerpoo on the couch. He sometimes jumps on the cabinets (of which I was horrified at first) but to my delight so far he has not scratched them. The finish was really done well so I will say whatever you choose, be sure the finishing is a high quality. It would be worth it to spend a little more for that.

Nursetammi, I love your cabinets and I like that they are alder wood with a cherry stain and a whiskey black glaze so that the color stays pretty consistent. I love cherry cabinets but the color changes. I am now rethinking my choice of white cabinets since I love the warmth of cabinets with that cherry look. Thanks again for sharing. Kacy is adorable. Glad the cabinet finish is holding up well.

lynn2006, you are too funny rethinking things, remember I have a big, very well lit room from all the windows so it doesn't look too dark. I too love the warm feeling. That was my goal for people to come in and immediately feel at home. But then I look at everyone's white kitchens that look so beautiful and think hmmmm maybe I should've done something different!. I'm just glad I don't have to make any more decisions, I'm done for a good while :) Good luck with your choices and decisions. You have a great team here to throw things back and forth with. I'm glad I was able to show you something different.
