Best way to REALLY clean laminate floor (lots of animal grime)
Comments (10)I researched this pretty thoroughly when I got my new laminate flooring a year ago and using a steam mop on a laminate floor is asking for trouble. Experts will warn you away from that. And, for mopping, you should never mop it like you would a tile or vinyl floor where it doesn't matter the amount of water you use. I use a laminate cleaner made strictly for laminate (not real wood) and a microfiber or terry cloth pad. There is only enough liquid to remove the marks, never more. And, of course, it is vacuumed first to remove dust and dirt because the biggest enemy of laminate is to capture the dirt and then scrape it across your floor while cleaning. Wet Swiffer products are probably not a good idea either because they introduce solvents that will haze and detract from the nice finish of the flooring. And, no Murphy's oil products...they are great for real wood but will cause a smeary mess on laminate. The Bruce products are great and so are the Abbey floor cleaner products. I would love to hear if someone has tried the BonaKemi products because the refillable floor mop system seems interesting....See MoreWhat is the best way to clean my new stainless appliances?
Comments (57)After reading the posts, I had already tried Sprayway, Stainless Steel Magic, Mr Clean Erasers(once), vinegar and water. But never Pledge. As I only had the orange Pledge I thought what the ****, I'll try it. I used the Micro Fiber towel ( Yes the ones from Costco for cars). It was wonderful and quick. My French Door frig, my dishwasher and range look great and all in five minutes. I call my husband Shrek as he never thinks about using the handles, but now I have a quick fix. Thanks to those that suggested it....See MoreBest way to clean and shine up my kitchen hardwood floor?
Comments (27)Just finished cleaning the kitchen floor (on my hands and knees). I need to correct my ratio posted above. I used a couple tablespoons of white vinegar to 2 quarts of water. Did a section at a time with a well rung cloth followed immediately by drying with a soft towel. I've been doing this for the past eight years. The floors have a satin finish, so they have a slight shine. That has not changed. There are scratches from the cats' claws (even though I keep them trimmed), but that's part of the patina. Those of you using steam mops on wood floors might want to reconsider. Comments (2)Laminates doe not like too much water. So you are down to slightly water-damp microfibre mop heads. A pH neutral floor cleaner can be used. You spray the MOP head (not the floor) and then push the mop around. You do not spray the floor. The original Windex formula (without ammonia) works wonders and evaporates very quickly so it doesn't leave too much "wet" on the laminate. Wet is DEATH to laminate. So anything that has a high ALCOHOL CONTENT will be a life saver for you and the floor. In fact, you can use Rubbing Alcohol directly on the nasty bits (be sure to have plenty of air circulation if you use more than a squirt or two) without damaging the product. Alcohol dries VERY quickly and does NOT leave a residue. 1 quart of Rubbing Alcohol can be purchased from any pharmacy = $1. Slightly water damp mop is your go-to wipe up option. Windex can be used for more thorough cleaning (never apply directly to the floor) and then alcohol can be used as a deep "spot" cleaner when necessary. This is as good as it gets with dogs that have plenty of drool. Tile would be slightly easier but not by much....See Moredeickhoff0
