I'm a little confused. Is this a cabinet that you're considering putting inside the walk in pantry? Will it limit how you wanted to use the new pantry and section off storage that might be better utilized if left more open? Or will it help to section off things?

Up to you, gf. You can have an accordian area if you want. A lot of people want plain, flat shelves because they are cheaper, but I can see using it if you want to.

Rhome, yes, in the walk in part. We were actually measuring for cabinets, and I realized there would be no shallow shelves for canned goods. I don't think it would make a difference in sectioning off things. Do I need to put more thought in this?

bmore, I do like the plain, flat shelves, but DH thinks if we did one side in 12-15" shelves all on one side it would be wasted because we end up with a 7' aisle.
The pantry is free, since we already have it.
And, it is 42"x24, so the depth would be the same as a base.

How did you get to measuring cabinets and planning the pantry without having space for canned goods? ;-)

Think of how you want to use it-- every way you want to use it and everything you might want to store in it, and plan the space you need for those things. You have miles of counter in your kitchen... How do you plan to use counters in your pantry? Do you need as much as you're planning? Don't get too fancy or too pretty and not have the flexibility and storage solutions you need. That pantry is huge and should be able to do EVERYTHING you want. If you have all cabinets and the closed pantry section, will you have flexibility for odd-shaped, large, or bulk items? Formal organization is nice, but only if everything fits.

I'm not trying to say you haven't thought of all these things... Just want to make sure you have. I know from experience that it's easy to get caught up in certain details and neglect something important that you wanted to accomplish.

You can do some of each - cabinets with your old pantry on one wall and flat shelves on some of the others. I did a small area with slat shelves and baskets with a counter over it. Course, my entire pantry would likely fit inside the accordion pantry :)

Can we please see pix of it? I can't picture an accordion pantry in my head....

Rhome, I don't think I've given it as much thought as needed. But, I've been thinking....

Have a lot of dishes, Christmas, china, my MIL used to have an antique store and she has given us a lot of dishes, flatware, platters, things I've kept boxed up mainly for a lack of storage for them. I have inspiration pictures of pantries that look nice for those type things. I think I've done just what you suggested, thought about THOSE things and neglected the other.

Maybe I should do a layout on the planner, take all things into consideration and see what can be accomplished on that route?

Dianalo, here is a picture of what my pantry looks like. It's not the actual pantry, but it is exactly like mine.

I haven't measured the space, but could/should I think about putting it in the corridor where the oven is located?
It measures 42x26 which would be built in next to counter depth cabinets.
