What your countertop seam look like? Pictures please!

We already have a firm date for the countertop installation, but now I am not sure where I want the seam to be. Our countertop is Corian's witch hazel, which has the marble-like veins. Below is the sketch of the layout and where the seam will be. But the installer called and said I probably will hate it after installed, and recommended the pattern flows all in one way - the way like the right side. I know the seam will be invisible that way, but it just seems strange if i am working at the sink or cooktop looking at these patterns flowing against me. Any suggestions?

Can't they do the seam for the corner on a diagonal?

I agree with your installer that the pattern flow should be all in one direction.

Here is a recent thread where the customer was unhappy with her install. While she knew what she wanted and communicated it to her fabricator, she was still left with an undesireable result. Previewing your layout before cutting is advisable. Linear movement on countertop

"The rounded edge on the inside of my sink and the two outside side edges cost a total of $150 more." This is why I keep preaching that fabricators should sell this option instead of that gawdawful ugly cheap "pencil" edge at sinks. One chip, and that's "when", not "if", and you've paid me nearly $300.00 to fix it on site. Pulling the faucet and sink, profiling and polishing a proper round over, and reinstalling the sink and faucet to reduce the risk of future chips could be $500.00 or more.

Kate, if you do want something that is very low maintenance, laminate is - the old and the newer. I think you're hearing from other people like me, who had the older laminate butcher block (and it was not attractive as I mentioned). If I were you, I'd go personally to the stores that carry it, and see it installed - otherwise I'd remain leery if I only had a sample piece to make a decision. After a quick look, the big box stores have Wilsonart laminate that is different from what I had (but I can't speak to the quality or final look): Though I did say above to check into IKEA, I personally would not want them for my entire countertop. They do require sealant, and re-sealing, and you need to be vigilant regarding standing water and faucets. Even Waterlox will have some issues, such as leaving black marks where rubber feet (the black kind) are - and some appliances have those. I'm doing a butcher block inset into our countertop, but it will be used for prep work and therefore won't be sealed, and I expect water marks and some bread-knife cuts. We'll remove and sand if we ever need to sell. Having said this, I've a relative who has wood countertops - but she never, ever cooks. Her countertops remain in pristine condition, but she is vigilant.

Seeing this in 2024 and that seam is TERRIBLE! Either the technology has completely improved or people saying it’s completely fine just have a very low standard. 😳I have never signed off a counter with seems like this, nor will I.

A slab is 120" by 55" .
If it has veins, they are either the long way or the short way.
I'll guess the long way is it.
If I'm wrong about this, go ahead and correct me. Anyone.

For a kitchen in an L shape, either
1/ get a counter material with less veining, or
2/ accept the change of direction, or
3/ cut it SEVERAL times to get the veining just right, but have several pieces put back together with epoxied seams.

Hmmmm...I was under the impression that one would ALWAYS want the veining to run 'along' the wall/lengthwise. I'll have the same predictament and I believe the fabricator is planning on a similar type of seam.
I'd also like to see some pictures with this type of L-shape counter with seam!
My DD just had a granite install but her L-shape is in the corner, not along a peninsular like mine, so no one would really notice the "slight" mismatch in the weins.
(actually I'm hoping he needs to use the 2 slabs I put on hold because they're very similar and the match would be oh-so-simple!)

First... I would be interested in seeing other people's seams on their granite.

I did a quick mockup of what it would look like either way. My fabricator also said our granite should run the same direction and we have a u-shaped. So our peninsula will have the veining running long and then where the sink is it will run short and then the other side of u will run long.

Here is what the witch hazel you have would look like (sort of...had to stretch the sample).
