Granite Backsplash with Tile BS or just Tile Backsplash???
Comments (6)My granite supplier advised using tile from the granite up (no granite back splash). She could have advised the other way and made a little more money, so I think she advised based on her honest opinion. I also like the "no granite back splash" look better. Just guessing, I'd say the only reason to use the 4" granite back splash would be if you weren't going to use any other back splash at all (a more low-budget option, in my opinion)....See MoreWould you do a 4 inch backsplash in granite and then tile?
Comments (22)So sorry to be late to respond about the cutout in my island. 1. I have cabinets and a susan under the seating side (can't tell from the picture but the cabinets are U-shaped underneath); 2. Wouldn't be able to easily reach to clean the island with the half wall; 3. Wanted the three of use to be able to see eachother when we eat (I sit right in the curve). I did a partial renovation of the kitchen and reused cabinets and then added some. My window shelf is so convienent. Its six inches deep... the same as the regular window sill, (2x6 framing)...See MoreBacksplash on top of granite 4in backsplash

Comments (16)Is your log home full log or log siding? If full logs have you taken into consideration settling? Logs at bottom of kitchen window height will probably settle roughly a half inch in a year or two. I built a log home a number of years ago and had the granite backsplash nearly up to the window trim. After eighteen months had to pull the bottom trim off and cut it down by a half inch. Othewise too much pressure on trim, countertops and cabinets from the weight of the settling house....See Moreglad
