ideas for switch plates for tumbled marble backsplash
Comments (8)I just got some wood switch plates at Home Depot and picked up some similar colors of the marble at the craft store for about .79 @ and dappled it on the wood to resemble the marble. You can experiment on a piece of cardboard to get the effect you like. I just left mine as is without a clear coat, but once it is dried you could easily brush on a clear. I just wouldn't do too glossy, so it will match the marble better....See MoreWhite subway tile backsplash. What color grout? Black? White?
Comments (27)I have the Subway Ceramics Avalon / Minas with a medium gray grout. And a Shaw's white sink, if anyone is considering that, by the way. (My contractor could have ordered it directly, but at his request, I went through a tile store, and by the time everyone had put their sugar onto it, it was OBSCENELY expensive.) I'm not an installation expert, but at least with the Subway Ceramics, the installers use little plastic spacers between the tiles (I think some others have their own spacers?) when they put them up, they don't do it freehand, so how much grout you get is a function of 1) the limits set by the curvature of the tile and 2) what size spacers they use. So you might be willing to go a little darker with a smaller grout line, or with a handmade tile that refuses to go close together, you might want to stay light. The traditional color is close to concrete. But most modern people don't seem to like that, so do what pleases you!...See Moreanother white subway tile backsplash???
Comments (20)We just put up our BS -- 2x4 " white subs -- on Sunday. Not grouted yet but will be gray as the tile on the floor. There is a lot going on in this kitchen and this tile looks best, IMHO. It is a farmhouse; new build. Gray quartzite and leathered black granite CT. I have never liked most BS as it seems to me to be the first thing in a kitchen to date it and distract. The scale of the smaller tile seems good enough here. Just because it is something that has been "done" over and over doesn't mean it's not the best thing for your kitchen. It was what I originally planned for this house going back about 10 years - just now getting the house finished. It's been a four year build :(...See MoreWhite Glass Subway Backsplash for Kitchen
Comments (6)that tile in that picture is tilebar Cadenza. I believe it's 2.3X9.5" they have it in white as well. Aurora is correct on the blue/green tinge of cheaper glass. if you must have glass, make sure you're guaranteed a true white color. the stuff you buy at floor and decor or home depot, won't give you a true white. herringbone layouts do best when the length is divisible by the width. otherwise, you get uneven sides and cuts. if you want the herringbone pattern, do the entire splash in the herringbone. 2x10, 3x12, 2x8, are all fine sizes. I did my shower in a 4x12. if you want to do a spot behind the stove, do a mockup and lay out all your tiles. measure where you're going to make the cuts so that all sides are equal. you could use a Schluter edging strip if you need to separate it from the other layout. exactly what I did here, but on a larger layout. took hours to get the math right on this wall! but it's all even....See Morekitchenaddict
