asking once again, going to 4 corners region
Comments (11)I'd take your time on the drive up if you can, it's such a pretty trip. You'll come towards the 4 corners on the highway (550?) from Bernalillo towards Farmington, about half way up is a very small town called Cuba, in the middle of which is one of the very best restaurants in the area, I'm pretty sure its called El Brunos, and well worth stopping, we actually time our trips down to Abq to hit Cuba at lunch time. Durango has the best selection of restaurants. Telluride also has good food (for a price). Riding the steam engine narrow gauge train from Durango to Silverton is a blast, it takes about 4 hours one way, and coming back down (ie doing it twice) can be a bit of a snooze, while the bus trip is only an hour and one can see different stuff. There are two ways to get to Telluride from Durango, the beautiful, hard way with a few mountain passes and lots of curvey roads; up to Silverton, Ouray, Ridgeway, and then over Dallas Divide and up alongside the San Miguel river. Its absolutely spectacular mountain driving. The other way is west from Durango through Mancos, over to Dolores, and then up the Dolores River, over Lizard Head pass, by trout lake, and on into town. I live about 5 miles south of Dolores. I'd sure try to do both trips at some point in your stay. The local radio stations are now playing songs by the performers, should be a heck of a show, but then it's considered the best Bluegrass there is. Comments (6)Properly designed frameless cabinets should have no problems with out a pole. I have a super susan in a frameless cabinet. It posed no problems for the cabinet makers or granite installer. It is wonderful storage space, especially since I picked up the idea here on GW of storing things to the sides and even under the susans. Make them take out that pole and supply shelves with susans attached. I suppose the cabinet makers might be skimping on the sides and back, but you should get what you ordered. Storage is so much better with a super susan. Sandra Sandra...See MoreWhat to Specify When Asking for Custom Cabinet Bid
Comments (11)pull-out breadboards? treatment of any display space such as wine rack, bookshelves, decorative panels? treatment of plain panel sections on cabinet ends?--I wish I'd had it in writing that our guy would use good-looking grain, not too busy. I won't even share a photo of a place where it looks like he thought a nasty grain board would be on inside, not outside of the end panel, sigh. handling of grain in symmetrical sections? I know that cabinet guys can't always match up the oak well, but in big expanses of oak, there can be obnoxious wild grain that needs to be used as a positive feature, not a negative eyesore. Can your guys match-up as best they can for slab or center "Shaker" panels from same general grain kind of board--look at these large drawers, where one set has good match and one has less good. (At least there isn't a real stinker piece here.) (Note: My dad was an old-school carpenter and he would have insisted that cabinet guys treat grain as a feature in symmetrical cab faces.) maximum use of space vs. sizes of cabs? We have a few places where we could have gained functionality if measurements were different. Be sure that you keep track of the sizes and expectations as the evolution of plans takes place. I think that I can explain why the inconsistencies crept in, but I'm not the only one who should have caught the error that cost me dearly in one instance. I think it was the result of a measuring error that was caught and compensated for but only in one instead of in two places where it mattered; a different error was in consequence of a misguided effort to add symmetricality. Both were total surprises to me at time when we couldn't go backward to fix the errors and now I'm married to the errors, stuck with 3 banks of lower cabs that cannot accept a pull-out unit of a sufficient size. Comments (6)try a 36 in high corner cab with just a small amt of molding at top. keep the bottoms at the same level and the cabs adjacent to the corner at 24 to 30 in high with more molding at tops. the staggered dimension will be across tops. Give yourself 21 or 24 in backsplash height for this spot. What part of the kitchen is it? Assuming it isn't the only storage area, tweaking the dimensions for "looks" won't interfere with the storage you would otherwise need. You can do something even with normal 8ft ceilings[assume the soffits are gone]....See Morebrianadarnell
