We are installing a 30 Shaw's farm sink and the base is 33 inches. I can't see a 30 inch sink fitting into a 30 inch base

The Shaw's sinks vary up to 2%, so a 30" Shaw's sink could conceivably be 0.6" bigger than a 30" sink base cabinet -- IOW, a disaster. Mine is in a 36" sink base with some filler at both sides.

I'm installing a 30" Whitehaus, and the kitchen designer has specified a 33" sink base for it.

Thanks for the replies...I was guessing it would be too small. I know Whithaus makes an apron front that is 26" on the outside, so that would probably fit in a 30" just fine. Now I just have to figure out if it would look funny if it was off-center.

I wanted a Shaw farm sink also.I was told a 30 would work but you should have the sink there when measuring for cabinets to allow for the 2% variance. So I chickened out. My sink is also off center and that was another reason I changed my mind. I still love the look of them hope I am not sorry.

I may end up going with custom cabinets, if so, I guess I could use a 31" base if necessary. Having the sink before the cabinets are made is a great idea...that may solve my problems.

beck, I also had a situation in which the apron-fronted sink would be off center. I looked at a lot of pictures and in the end decided it would look better if it were far off center than a few inches off center. But it depends on the overall design of you kitchen, too. If there are other things that have to line up along an axis it would be more important to center it than otherwise.

Have you looked at the FKB? You'll probably find examples of something that look applicable to your situation.

Mine is off-center, for what it's worth, although it's not a traditional-looking kitchen in the first place. I compensated by putting the main faucet to one side, and so far folks seem to think it looks great. Here's a quick lousy mid-construction photo:

Thanks for the photo! That helps a ton! The off-center placement of the main faucet really helps. I'm thinking mine won't be too noticable as you will hardly ever be looking straight at the sink unless you are using it because it's on an angled wall.

I'm going to play around in my design software and see if I can reasonably replicate what it would look like.

Ok, so here's my try at visualizing this. Note that I can not get the software to complete parts of the backsplash, counter etc. Also, I couldn't get a 30" sink centered on the 33" base so I just made it a 33" sink.

I think if it were me, I'd move it to be in front of the double window to the left. Although it certainly looks fine where it is.

I have a 30" stainless steel farmhouse sink, and it is designed to sit in a 30" base cabinet and does so perfectly. Check the specifications of your sink - they should give detailed information about the base cabinet requirements.

If move the sink, I loose my prep space. Keeping the sink on the angle should be cheaper, since it's where the sink is now.

I've played with that set-up, but it really cramps everything into the corner by the cooktop.

I have custom cabinets and had the sink shipped directly to the cabinet maker so that the base is exactly the right size. One of the advantages of custom. I think it is just because of the 33" sink but it doesn't go past the wall like it looks in the picture does it? What software are you using?

Actually, it would go past the wall, or maybe line up directly with it. It looks really funny because I can't get the counter top to show up behind the sink. I'm thinking the base would have to be at least 27" deep, so there would definitely be counter back there.

I may have to use a smaller sink and maybe not an apron front.

The design software I have is Better Homes and Gardens Home Designer 8.0. It's the cheapes BHG software that has architecture, landscape, and decorating.
