My Mom's is more transitional than traditional so we are trying to layer textures and pattern and add some drama with colour. Kitchen is a featurless interior room in an 80's build high rise condo. It has no window so shooting it can be tricky, my Mom sent me these today to show me the new central light installed: Just daylight (it was overcast and snowy today) and the flash with 3 different light sources (flash, the light and daylight), yikes too man light sources!: I find the whites are more accurate in the first shot while the colour of the walls is more like in the second one. It is BM "Rusty Nail in a flat Aura paint while the ceiling is BM "Cloud White" in the same finish and paint. This is in daylight with a flash but no overhead light: This is last night with the overhead and under cabinet lights on and the flash: It's a strong colour that sort of frames the cabinetry but there isn't a whole lot of it. Backsplash (inset backsplash in both sides of the "L" only no side splash) will be a 1x1 mosaic in off whites and soft beiges. My Mom didn't have a huge budget so she wanted to go a bit bolder and take advantage of some of the fun patterns and textures available in man made materials like laminate and sheet flooring. It isn't a space that lends itself to a cottagey white kitchen, old world elegance or sleek and modern so this was ideal and suits my Mom perfectly.

Kat - Thanks for the compliment. Our perimeter counters are soapstone and the island is marble. The marble still makes me nervous and I continue to etch it (which is not highly visible on the honed surface, but I still know they are there). The inset cabinets were an absolute must for us. We did tear down construction in an older neighborhood and wanted to have some elements of the 1920s-1940s style consistent with the neighborhood. With the kitchen being visible from the front door, it needed to be both pretty and fairly authentic. Sure, I lost a little storage space by doing the inset, but the look is exactly what we needed.

I've been searching for your reveal but cannot find it. Snow day here in NH so we went to look at kitchen faucets. Leaning toward the Moen that you have. How is it working for you? An issue we have in our current kitchen is the handle hitting our window sill, so it had to be rotated to the front. Don't particularly like this so was hoping to avoid in our new kitchen. I'm not seeing how far back the handle goes back on the Moen website. Any idea?

Our cabinets are BM Gardenia, a very warm white. We matched the trim to the cabs, including the baseboards. For the ceiling, we went with BM ceiling white, whatever that is. For us it worked out well. The business of "layering whites" has worked out well for many posters on this site. Personally, I think, that except for the ceiling, as long as there is some separation between the whites, you can have almost as many shades as you like. Like you, we also went with a grey-ish color for the walls. Ours is a 50/50 mix of BM Metallic Silver and Pidgeon Grey. If you're looking for a light grey, look at BM Metallic Silver. It was too light for us, but it may work for you. Also, keep in mind that paint is the easiest and least expensive thing to change.
