Have you seen this 3D woven tile? PICS

We've been in our new house for almost 6 months. We've remodeled 3 kitchens already, so usually I have a really good idea of what I want and where to find it. This kitchen was already nearly perfect, so I was in no rush and figured I would eventually get around to installing a simple crackle finish small scale subway tile.

Then yesterday I opened up Traditional Home magazine and saw this pic. It's so gorgeous! I immediately turned to the Reader's Resources for info, but it only listed the designer.

Has anyone seen this tile on their searches? I checked the usual suspects (Ann Sacks, Waterworks,Pratt and Larson, Walker Zanger).

Here's our kitchen. This is a progress pic so it's not really dressed right now. We still need barstools and I've changed the accessories. I may end up repainting.

I would try e-mailing the designer. I did that with some pendants I wanted and the designer (in Chicago)told me what they were.

Try searching the Ann Sacks website using the term - St. Petersburg basketweave
There's a sample pic shown (without the vertical pencil-edge pieces on either side of the tiles) They're called 1/2" inserts for 2" x 6" tiles, on the site.

You might look into glazed ceramic mosaics. There used to be several companies that offered "medleys" such as what you're looking at in that pic with the glass mosaics, but I don't know if they're still available. They were big in the 80's but I think pretty much petered out. You might still find someone who carries them, though.

suzannesl - I saw that picture on the website too and that was part of the reason I was worried about it being dark. I guess since I have them IRL, I should stop worrying about that. I have noticed that there are some little bubbles in the 'frosting' of the glass and that does cause me some concern. My contractor did ask me to decide what I wanted to do, but I'm thinking that he just wanted to know that now to take into account how much labor to charge for the estimate. I was planning to tile behind the hood, so I am guessing that I'll need to know sooner rather than later so that they can get it put up back there. As far as the floors go - I've already had two plumbing issues that didn't cause problems for my tile floors, but did cause the basement ceiling to be replaced. It was damaged several months later and will be replaced again with the reno when they run the gas lines anyway. Pricey problems and I worry about it. My contractor told me that he has constant insurance claims after power outages for people that don't think to empty the ice tray or silly things like that. Sounds like me... But they are so beautiful. remodelfla - do you know if those tiles are from Shaw? Because they have a clear version of the tile and it looks completely identical to what you have! Funny! Thanks for the tile source! I'm going to order several samples from there. Can't hurt! :)

I have talked to the owner, who loves to rescue old chairs and has THIRTEEN rockers plus many other chairs in his house that he has restored! He says that he and his wife discussed this, and just don't have room for another chair. I honestly don't know where I'd put it at the moment, but it is just so interesting looking... I have an old high school friend who does upholstery, and a cabinet maker former neighbor who does chair repair. I'd probably have to employ both to get this done, so am still pondering...The carving is like nothing I have seen, and that is what intrigues me. I suspect I can get it for less, and may see it this weekend.

Thanks everyone for the pictures; they are all beautiful. I ordered the one from Overstock last night. Parma, I also saw that one in Shades of Light - I am just amazed at the price difference between Overstock and Garnet Hill and Shades of Light. I guess Overstock is going to be my new BFF. I just hope I am not disappointed in the black border, but I am trying to tie it in with black floral pillows. I keep going back and looking at it and it seems to take away from the "earthiness". But, every room needs a little black I guess. One more question, what is the best type of pad for the flat weaves?? Tuesday

Dawn, you were right. I emailed the designer and she told me it's St. Petersburg. We don't have an AS dealer anywhere near to us, so I could order them through her. The price as shown in the mag is nearly $100 a sf plus shipping and tax. I could save about 50% by not using the inserts, but that's what makes the tile IMO. We need about 20sf, so this is a major purchase. We'll see after Christmas.

I saw this same tile at my granite fabricator's shop. They are Central States Tile in Overland Park, KS, if you want to call them for a bid. (913) 681-6629.
