Have you seen...glossy backsplash with matte focal point?
Comments (5)I am doing the 3 tile set that is the "art nouveau iris" with the deep purple and green. It will be surrounded by some vintage fireplace tiles I bought a few weeks ago and then a black liner, so the vintage tiles (1 x 2s with faux crackle over light purple and green splotches) will form sort of a mat, like in a picture frame. I am hoping they help feature the middle. Our field will be gray subways capped by black bullnose edges. Luckily, our bs is a small area, so the cost is not overwhelming, but we want to make the most of the tiles we do use. The center and vintage tiles were a splurge, but I think they make the look :)...See MoreThose of you with marble backsplashes ...
Comments (34)Hi there. I know this post is old but I’m curious how well your marble splashback has held up through years of cooking, particularly if you do stir frying. I’m planning for my kitchen reno and I love the calcatta marble subway tiles for a modern farmhouse kitchen theme. My builder says it’s more porous than carrara. Even the tiling shops have told me to use porcelain marble look coz it’ll be pretty on the first year but it’s a headache to maintain real marble and oil can sip through even if it’s sealed. How did yours go after 5-10years or more?...See MoreTo backsplash or not to backsplash....that is the question....
Comments (26)Have you considered wallpaper? You can bring in color, as well as a design, if that's your 'schtick'. Just throwing another consideration in the mix. I personally *hate* a backsplast covered in tile or granite from countertop to bottom of cabinets, or even further up. I've gone *about* 3/4 up the wall, with the remained just the neutral color thruout the rest of my home, but only on the interior cabs, so above the stove and sink areas. On the perimeter bank of cabinets, it's just a painted wall, where I had planned to use wallpaper, but haven't done so yet. I also picked up at an auction a painted canvass, which is long and narrow, and thought of using it here. It's a vintage French scene of a girl feeding chickens in a barn, done in dark colors, which is my preference. I just don't want to leave it should I sell. ;)...See MoreBacksplash Starting Point (Layout) - Advice Needed
Comments (5)I used very similar backsplash tiles. I would start with centering your tiles under your hood. You can actually cut the tiles off from the mesh as needed to adjust distances, but I suspect you won't need much fudge factor to make the tiles end without a sliver on the right side. As you're tiling you can move them over as needed and I'd guarantee you'd never notice the spacing differences - you're talking a fraction of an inch - between those tiles, as the edges are somewhat irregular. Just a little heads up - those tile sheets tend to drift down the wall as they dry. I used little brads (small headed nails) to temporarily hold the top row of tiles so they didn't sink. Just a little tap into the wall, keeping them easy to remove....See Moreallison0704
