I am in a similar situation. We are building new and intended on using white trim,base,windows and doors. The white vinyl windows are in. Now that we picked out our brazilian walnut floors I question whether we made the right choice and if we did change doors,trim and base to a richer color would it now clash with the white windows.

Cindy, I am embarrassed to post these pictures of my old pine trim but I just wanted to give you some idea of what dark stained pine looked like. We are also getting a QS white oak floor but will not start construction till the first of the year. These are just a few scrap pieces of QS white oak that we were playing around with stain the lightest is natural and the other is a light brown called nutmeg. I want to replace the trim and doors with white because I feel my house seems very dark. DH wants to do stained wood but white oak trim and doors are ridiculously priced. I do have to admit that pine is easier to match to the white oak than red oak. No matter what we stain red oak I think it has too much grain and looks too red next to the QS white oak. But I am also not an expert in staining or woodwork so I hope someone with more knowledge chimes in. Good luck hope this helps.

Don't know if this will help you visualize since it's not the exact same situation (kind of the opposite). My house has all stained trim except for the ceiling molding which is painted white. I thought I'd post these pics anyway so that you can see how both stained & painted trim look together in the same room. Our baseboards are old, red oak stained dark in contrast to the lighter stained oak floors.
