question about undermount sink installation

Do you know how your sink was installed?

In my area, 2cm granite is the norm, so granite is installed over 1/2- 3/4" ply. As I understand it, the "standard" way to install an undermount sink in this application is for the sink "lip" to be supported by the ply, and it is sandwiched between the granite and the ply.

I know that sinks can be attached to the granite itself with screws/clips, but that is not how I understand this job will be done.

On one hand, the idea of the weight of the sink being evenly distributed on plywood all the way around appeals to me, rather than it hanging from 6-8 clips. Seems like the downside is only very tough removal of a sink if that ever had to happen.

Is attaching to the granite common too?
