Layout help
Comments (14)Thanks for the replies everyone...you guys have definitely brought up things I havent and never would have thought of. I figured with the sink and all the appliance on more of one side of the kitchen (middle towards the fridge) would make life easier. The kitchen we have now has 36" between the island and the perimeter cabinets and we have never had any problems. I figured 42" would be enough between sink and stove. We are also not any type of gourmet cooks...I do all the cooking, the fiance cleans. Also, with the layout above, I dont really see any times that we would have more than 8 eating at the table...I dont think we would have people sitting at the island as well as at the table. There are only 2 of us that will even be living there. Well, I took the suggestions and: -shrunk the island about 1' which allows just about 4' on all the sides of the island -moved the sink/dishwasher to the bottom wall -moved the table over just a bit If you guys have more advice, Im listening. The microwave will be in a base cabinet on the island towards the refrigerator facing the range in the 24" cabinet. The bad news is I spent $4200 at Ikea today as it was the last day I had to jump in on their 20% off sale. Good news is, I can easily return the few cabinets I wont be using and hopefully just pick up the correct ones in the store when it comes time to do the kitchen and keep the 20% off (good for 90 days) Thanks again everyone GreenDesigns - That is a window just below the table. The entry it to the right of that, you can see it better in this new picture. I originally planned for a banquette but lots of people in the home building section said there was too much wasted space without a full size table. Comments (8)I have a 10 inch pantry next to the fridge. We included it so the CD fridge would have a built-in look, but what I really love about it is the 30 inch cabinet over it. It has a shelf, and I have cutting boards on the bottom within easy reach and less-often used cookie sheets, muffin tins, and platters on the top shelf. I was going to put those items above the fridge, but with the pantry cabinet, I don't have to lean against the fridge and reach as deep to access them. And I didn't want the cutting board storage in a bottom cabinet because I had that before and I needed more base cab storage (for a spice drawer and bread and snack drawer). I used the above the fridge cab for larger light-weight items like Bundt pans and angel food cake pans. So there are added benefits to a pull-out pantry besides the pantry itself. The person who had the amazingly organized tiny Brooklyn galley kitchen has the same set-up. I can't remember her name to find a photo for you, but brooklyn was part of it....See MorePantry cabinets: pull-out drawers or shelves?
Comments (31)You can create this look by installing a 15" 3 drawer base on the bottom and then a 15" deep upper cabinet that is tall (depends on the height of your cabinetry) that sits right on top. We are planning something like this (see computer rendering). Someone on Houzz in an old thread suggested you can add a nice detail by installing in a thick horizontal board over the lowers with a nice edge detail and the uppers sit on top. It is a timeless look, IMO...See MoreExactly how tall is an 80" ikea pull out pantry?
Comments (4)I think Lenzai is right. The cabinet - without toekick - is probably 80" tall. Add the 4.5" toekick that's standard in the USA, and your cabinet is now 84.5" tall. If you have 8' ceilings, that leaves 1.5" for crown molding - assuming your minimum ceiling height throughout the kitchen is 8' (96"). Be aware that it is a rare kitchen that has the same ceiling height throughout the room - so measure in all corners as well as the center and areas in-between so you don't have any surprises when/if you go with the cabinet....See Morelocaleater
