Faron here...DW wants Burgundy entry tiles?!?!?
Comments (2)Nevermind the countless entries I've done for others-- my OWN entry when I built my house in Ct. years ago had blue pearl tile. Four young kids, two dogs, and plenty of entertaining inside the four years we lived in that home, and never a single slip. Oh, and my house was also, as you put it, bi-level entry (raised ranch). As for finding something that out of the ordinary (black burgandy mottled tile), you're probably going to have to go to a good tile showroom to find it, if indeed, it does exist. I know I've gotta stiffen the floor regardless If that subfloor is actually 5/8", you'll have to add a MINIMUM of another 1/2" of plywood before anything else (except taking up the vinyl, of course!)...See MoreSO mad about my Bosch DW - I just want to throw it away....
Comments (12)The dishes were dirty (greasy bowls, etc.) AFTER the restarted cycle completed? Or you checked it part-way through upon restarting and saw it wasn't doing a good job? I assume the machine has a mechanical timer, as an electronic control probably wouldn't have remained "paused" for an extended period and would begin the cycle completely over upon being restarted. Since the cycle was interrupted, and restarted presumably already filled with water ... it may have already been in the main wash phase (after a prewash and/or prerinse during the first 15 mins you said had passed) ... and I assume it continued on with the COLD water (since some time had passed with it turned off) already in it. Perhaps, for whatever reason (high-temp option not selected, etc.), it didn't extend the remaining cycle time to reheat the water, resulting in bad performance. Did you try rewashing the load? Have you had opportunity to run the machine again, with a different load, and got the same poor performance?...See MoreWhy rust on dinner knives from dw?
Comments (6)lazycook I have had the brown spot problem with my Kitchen Aid. It only happens with silverware that has mayonnaise on them. Now I wash the mayonnaise off before loading. I hope this helps. I answered this question in May. If you want to see the post; do an appliance search on "brown spots"; it ran May 13th. I have put my flatware knives in the dishwasher for 40 years and have never had a problem. I do hand wash my good cutting knives. Some of the flatware is over 30 years old....See MoreWhy not clean dishes before putting in DW?
Comments (47)Chemically, there is NO WAY any household-approved enzyme can etch glass, porcelain or metal (if any enzymes can, you wouldn't want them in DW detergent or near non-chemists). Enzymes are protein molecules that break down other proteins, or fats, or carbohydrates to make them easier to remove from your dishes. Some sites claim "Today's detergent is designed to react with the proteins in leftover food. These proteins activate the enzymes that clean and remove soil. If there is little to no food on the dishes prior to being put in the dishwasher, the detergent cannot activate. It will largely remain in its crystal format, attacking your dishes, usually in the form of etching and fogging your glassware. This is chemically ridiculous ... purified dried enzymes, like other proteins, soften and dissolve readily in water, which automatically "activates" them. Think of how dried raw egg white behaves and that's how enzymes react to water. I can't think of a chemically plausible mechanism that would require dried food crud for a detergent to work properly. If you are seeing etched and fogged glassware, it's a water chemistry problem (hard water), maybe a water temperature problem, but don't blame undissolved, inactive enzymes. The soil acts as a pH buffer to the detergent. Also chemically implausible ... the type and quantity of food crud varies wildly between loads, so its buffering properties would also vary wildly. =========== I scrape the dishes, pre-wash any really crusty cooking pans and let the DW do its thing....See MoreFori
