Kitchen sink - tipouts or closer to counter edge?

The way our kitchen is coming together, there are small bumpouts on either side of the kitchen sink. The plan had been to put the countertop edge equal with these bumpouts in front of the sink. We're now realizing that this will make the distance from the sink interior to the counter edge about 6 inches. Do you think this is too far? I think I've read it should be more like 4 inches?

Our options are to live with the 6 inch distance, or to cut the counter so it comes out only at the bumpouts of the cabinets, or to pull the sink forward. With the counter change, I'm afraid it might look strange. But if we pull the sink forward, we lose the pullouts we were planning in the cabinets (won't be room for them). What would you do?
