Black Pearl will I love it

Tomorrow, I go to finalize my choice of black pearl. I have cherry cabinets with SS appliances and will be having hardwood floors installed. The color of the kitchen is a light olive green. After thinking about this granite for months, I'm beginng to have second thoughts. I have not been able to find many pictures with this granite and cherry cabinets. We will be using the black pearl on both the perimeter and the island.

Could you please post your pictures? I'm getting cold feet.

Have you checked out Blue Pearl? I have Blue Pearl with red birch cabinets but in was seeing it in a friends kitchen with cherry cabinets that made me decide to get it.

I have black pearl granite in the bathroom with alder cabinetry. I really like it. It's a very hardy granite that will function well in the kitchen. It will require a daily wipe down as dust and water splotches show up on it fairly quickly.

I put black galaxy in my last house and thought it was beautiful. They weathered through two baby and toddler boys fine. I just needed to do a thorough wipe-down at night and if someone was coming over, I'd do another wipe-down. Water spots and other kid-mess was very visible so keeping a relatively clutter-free counter was kind of necessary for the quick-clean-ups. My favorite thing about the black galaxy was that it reflected our ceilings. We had incredible plaster work on the ceilings (original to the 1886 brownstone), and the reflective nature of the granite gave the room a total wow-factor. That said, consider this when you choose your ceiling fixtures and the ceiling area in general. Good luck!

Leathered black pearl seems like a great choice. We looked at several slabs of leathered black pearl when out granite shopping in July. The soft, mottled look is beautiful. It is hard to imagine that the maintenance would be that different from the honed black pearl we've had installed for about two months now. Ours seems like zero maintenance so far. No stains. No etches. Hard as, they say, rock. I have been using Method Granite polish which is actually putting a bit of a sheen back on the honed granite. But I don't mind the little sparkle and occasional glint of the granite, Unless you think the slight indentations/crevices in the leathered would be a maintenance problems, I say go for the leathered black pearl. (I loved the leathered finish, but couldn't talk my DH into it.)

Oh, don't even get me started! ;) I haven't seen a sueded sample, but our fabricator showed us what honed would be like: they take a polished piece and basically 'rough' up the surface so it's no longer glass-smooth -- leaves a matte finish, but still pretty 'flat' to the eye. The amount of leathering/texture our guy gave us as a sample is 3/4 way from honed to leathered. So, more nubby to the eye, but still buttery soft to the touch (ooh-la-la!). I was very concerned about gunk and flour getting caught in the grooves/divets, but it wasn't the case at all. I've read in the past that leathered granite absorbs oils from fingertips, but that may be because the granite wasn't sealed. Our fab sent us home with a sealed piece, which I dabbed cooking oil onto and let sit for a few hours. Wiped it clean -- no absorption (dark spot) whatsoever. If you can, find a fabricator who at least has various samples of the different textures available in his showroom. I have emerald pearl and really love it. Its dark, almost black, but really a very dark green, with bluish mica. I never get tired of seeing how it changes depending on the angle you tilt your head. I do wipe the main areas daily, but only move things (toaster, knife block, bread basket etc) once/week to clean under. Still then, its not that dusty. I think you will love your black pearl!

I have black pearl on the perimeters. It's been in for almost 2 years. Ditto mountaineergirl on never getting tired of seeing how it changes in the light. It feels classic to me. My cabinets are maple with a toffee stain.

I have black pearl in my master bath with white cabinets, white ceramic backsplash. it looks like black with built in water drops of random shape and size. I have blue pearl as well, and the two are very different.

black pearl is one of the more impervious and durable "granites" and should not be sealed, sealer will not soak in. you can cut lemons on it as long as you clean up later that day.it is possible to mar it if you leave acidic things on it wet but it would take a few days. ask me how I know...

I am getting black pearl counter tops on cherry perimeter cabinets and a white island.

rtwilliams, I did get it installed last Oct and I love it. I don't have pictures, but it looks beautiful with cherry cabinets. I don't think you will be disappointed.

i have natural cherry cabinets and absolute black granite counters! i love them! It’s such a classic timeless style!
