OK, I'm not painting kitchen cabs...but what about this? PICS
Comments (51)I saw this post and felt compelled to speak..lol..type...I would stand in the door way of the kitchen/dining area and the living room...find a color that co-exists in both rooms and paint the cabinets in that color, you would need to scuff the faces on the fronts of the bases and doors, to give them whats called a tooth...just means to make the paint bond better... if you can find a common color between the rooms...it will have a more unified look...also if you were to go all white, they would blend in more with the baseboard trim and door trims, in both rooms...you can't go wrong either way...I would say if you are able to cordinate the cabinets to both rooms and lose the bi-fold doors, now I have a question? is that a dark trim around the top of the living room? I have a disorder maybe it's a matchy matchy thing? but I would match that to the base boards and door trim or vice versa...just my thoughts on your neat little nook......See MoreConvincing Husbands that Paint is OK on Cabinets
Comments (15)Donka, you had me howling. What is it with "poly" - I've used it, but don't paint with it. You reminded me about our great room when we moved in - it had espresso-almost-black panelling on the walls (and orange shag rug) - it was so dark with the black furniture of the previous owner that it was sort of difficult to tell what was at the other end of the room. We called it the Bat Cave. If it had been anything lighter I would have had real difficulty convincing my dh that we should paint it. That room also had NO windows on the Southern wall, just floor to ceiling built in espresso-almost-black built in cupboards. Our community is very expensive, and the house had a lot of room and a good sized property - it had been overpriced for the dated, though well kept, interior. There was potential, but I told dh we couldn't buy the house unless he promised that we could put in a couple of windows in the great room and paint the room. He agreed. Two weeks after we moved in, (with young kids we were just starting to feel settled) he started commenting on how nice it was to have so much storage, and did we really have to remove the cabinets? I whipped out the crow bar that afternoon. (Actually, I looked in many, many boxes in the garage to find it.) Look how strong Mommy is! I don't believe the mars/venus dichotomy either. But this does have me stumped. I would never paint quarter-sawn oak, and I have done my share of refinishing furniture, but there is a lot of ugly wood that with a coat of paint looks fresh and handsome. I love the splashes of color by artists such as Susan Sargent, and I LOVE the furniture by Maine Cottage....See MorePainting cabs on site?
Comments (3)Due to a variety of construction issues I had to have my cabs painted on site. I do not recommend it, due to a variety of reasons: 1. You will not get the same quality of paint job painted on site vs. in a clean room intended for painting. 2. It is very disruptive. They need a lot of space. In my case they took over my entire garage (which meant I had to park on the street for a week), bonus room and the kitchen. I had to move a lot of personal belongings to make the space necessary for them to paint. And because the paint was then wet, there were entire areas of my house that I could not pass through as it was drying. I, along with my 2 cats, were living on the premisis so this meant a lot of workers coming and going (think primer plus multiple finish coats). Odors, tons of tarps, plastic and crap everywhere. Pictures below so you get an idea. I would strongly encourage you to tell them this is not an option, you want it painted in a clean room and you are willing to take a schedule hit if need be. Kitchen cabs while being painted: Kitchen cabinet doors being painted in my garage turned painting studio: My bonus room was turned into the "spray room" aka the lunar landing. See all the stuff behind the plastic - what I could not move was covered and I could not get to it for a week - things like laundry!: Having trouble posting today, hopefully this is not a duplicate post....See MoreSite built and site painted cabinets, help!
Comments (9)Most times on this forum I see people ask questions without providing the necessary details to elicit a proper response. This leads to all kinds of comments from people who may only have limited experience on the subject. In general someone building cabinets on site and finishing on-site means it's not a top tier operation espically building them. On-site oil paint finishing, there are exceptions, Christopher Peacock cabinets which we all know are probably the most expensive cabinets out there are calked, filled and hand brushed oil painted on site. They do use one of the most expensive paints FPE (fine paints of Europe) and very experienced skilled painters. This is probably not the case here but without knowing anything more about what they are actually doing and why or what you are expecting for what you are paying I would get some answers before going any further....See More- 11 years ago
