Blanco Silgranite Super Single Sink ..center or offset drain?

Hi... I have seen the two available super single silgranit sinks and one model has the offset drain and the other has the center drain....why should I pick one over the other.. the faucet will be in center and I do not have a garbage disposal.... is this just for looks or is their a reason to pick one over the other...i think they are pretty much the same other wise..although slightly different in price...thanks

I think the center drain siligranite sink is undermount only whereas the offset drain one can be either undermount or drop-in. If you're planning to do undermount then it's really just personal preference. I have mine offset (and undermounted) and like it that way. I can load up dishes on one side and still access my drain and disposal. Without a disposal it probably makes even less of a difference.

Also, the offset one is slighlty larger than the center drain one and requires a 36" sink base. I have a 33" sink base so I went with the center drain.

serviceplumberman, Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't know about a rough-in sheet. I did check online the specifications sheet for the sink and it didn't give the information I need. I have contacted Blanco to ask about the rough-in sheet. For anyone else out there who might like to take a stab at this question here are some measurements. Sink base cabinet a standard 34" height. Current waste drain stub 16'' from the finished slab floor. (10'' from floor of cabinet and the floor of the cabinet is another 6'' from the finished slab floor). Sink in question is Blanco Silgranit Diamond 1 and 3/4 undermount. Deeper side is 9 1/2'' and shallower side is 8'' deep. My worry is whether I would have to lower the waste drain which I think is a big job in order for the deeper depth side of the sink to drain properly. I hate to buy the sink and have it installed under the granite countertop only to realize that the waste drain needs to be lowered. I'm trying to think through the realities before buying any product. Thanks for any and all advice!

I have a Blanco Diamond sink and a Delta Pilar faucet with pulldown sprayer. With the sprayer locked in, the faucet does not run directly into the drain at any point (it's a bit more than ten inches from the stem to the opening, and at a slight outward angle), but with the sprayer pulled out an inch or so, the water runs straight down into the drain. I rarely need to do that -- only when running cold water to mitigate the impact on the plastic pipes of emptying a lot of boiling water at once. We don't have a garbage disposal. But between the large range of the faucet and the flexibility of the sprayer, it's possible to run water hands-free pretty much wherever in the sink we'd like. Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone! Are you talking about the floor of the cabinet or the actual floor of the kitchen in your measurements? tracyac and angier - would you please clarify? I greatly appreciate you taking the measurements. The center of our waste drain is 10" from the floor of the sink base cabinet and the floor of the cabinet is another 6" from the slab floor. So . . . . , I don't think the super single is going to work unless I lower the waste drain at least 4 or more inches and I understand that is a big job. Our sink cabinet is along a pony wall that also has the DW. We are in a great room design and the kitchen is open to the living and dining room. I think the piping would be fairly easy to get to from the dining room side of the pony wall, but I don't know if the waste pipe travels somewhere else before it goes below our slab. If it were a straight drop from where the stub comes out of the cabinet perhaps the job wouldn't be too bad. Hum m m m ? Thanks again for the help! jB1176

And should a drain be on the side of the dishwasher? Or do these things not matter? I'm right-handed and prefer the drain in the left rear. That way, I can use my right hand to sweep food waste into the drain in a natural motion. The side the dishwasher is on is mostly irrelevant. Most of the undersink plumbing is from the disposer (which is directly under the drain), the hot and cold water valves and intake hoses, the drain, the retracted flex hose for hand sprays, and soap and instant-hot dispensers if you have them. The only dishwasher plumbing in the sink cabinet is a flexible hose leading from the dishwasher to the drain (via an air gap if you have one), which doesn't take up much space and can be fastened to the back wall of the cabinet, out of the way, and probably a thin copper tube leading from the hot water valve.

I just want to echo what Rmlanza said. The advantage of an offset drain is that you can put dishes, a cookie sheet, or a baking pan in the sink, and not cover the drain the way they would if the drain were in the center. Seems like a minor thing, but actually, it's quite a convenience.

I ordered the silgranit off-set drain that will be undermounted for all the reasons already mentioned. I'll have a GD so it was especially important that I be able to wash dishes on the R side in a dishpan and dump stuff down the disposal on the L side drain.

mrs-mjt, do you have the super single? I just ask because my drain is on the right and you're saying yours is on the left. Just curious, do they offer both options or can you turn the sink around?

good catch gozalyn, I wasn't aware the two sinks are different sizes!
