Sorry, I haven't done that with the large frame around the group, but I do have a great tip for hanging groups of photos (worked really really well for me, especially since I had all different sizes/types of frames):

Cut out pieces of paper to match the size(s) of your frames. Then use tape to arrange the photos on the wall until you come up with a look that you like. In your case, I would hang the large frame on the wall first, and then hang your paper templates inside of that so you can get an idea of how it will look. Then, once you get the arrangement you want, put the nails/hooks into the wall, directly through your paper templates. Then tear the templates away, and viola! All of your nails will already be exactly where you need them-- just hang your frames!

kmgard -- I love your tip about picture hanging -- will certainly save me marking up the walls with my pencil scratches as I have done in the past.

i like kmgard's idea- that has worked for me too!

I took some pictures to Walgreens picture maker and had them all made in 5x7 sepia tone Then I went to a craft store and had a custum mat made to fit my frame but you don't have to do that. Hope this helps.

Sorry I don't have a picture to share, but I have done this in a previous home. I had 3 small framed prints that were 'lost' on a large wall so I had DH make a frame to surround them and it sort of 'expanded' their presence on the wall and worked out great. It was in my son's room and it was something everyone commented on when they saw it, so yes it can work!

Marybeth, that is so similar to what I want to do! Although I am thinking of having the individual pics framed too. But thanks for posting, it's very close. I have some really wonderful, b+w, playful shots of my parents when they were in their 20s (now in mid 80s!) that I want to use.

jessie, The pictures are from our wedding. We were married in steamboat springs Colorado and had our reception on a ranch with moonlight hayrides, cocktails in teepees and dinner in this beautiful B&B that would rival Martha Stewart. The picture is in my hallway and you would not believe the compliments I get on it. When the pictures are of someone or something special I think it adds so much personality to it. I love your idea and think it will look great!
