Comments (4)wascolette, Love, love, love your kitchen. Your long wait was so worth it. One of my all time favorites on GW! I love how you combined the marble with the soapstone and the beautiful blue island with the yellow walls. Such a cheery and welcoming kitchen! Which wall tiles did you use for your backsplash? They are just perfect!...See MoreFinished Kitchen (+1 Year)- White / Marble / Mahogany / Soapstone
Comments (54)Beautiful kitchen!! I am just starting or should I say 6 months in the designing phase of a remodel. I have changed my mind so many times & very in decisive. I was sure I would go with a contemporary walnut slab cabinet. Changed my mind to white cabinets with the Calcutta marble with a wood island. It is really funny that I ran across your kitchen cause it has the x glass cabinets that I just decided on a few days ago and wood floors. I am meeting with the cabinet maker in a few days to go over the changes. After seeing your kitchen I am now sure I am making the right selections. I just voted for your kitchen, of course, it is the most stunning kitchen!!! Good luck!...See Morewhite countertop options-soapstone? marble?
Comments (4)In the course of my kitchen reno drama I have become a bit of a white countertop expert. Take a look at Caesarstone (www.caesarstoneus.com) also a man made quartz like Silestone. They have a nice selection of whites - many used in more modern schemes - you will see photos on their website. Blizzard or Pure White might be of interest to you. Ikea also sells Caesarstone but you have to use their fabricator to install and that could be a risky endeavor - guess it depends who you get - I would not chance it myself. Soapstone is always dark. There are some beautiful white granites - I have seen some that have wonderful veining similar to marble. Granite is harder than marble so easier to maintain. Marble is lovely - looks so great in those kitchen photos - but porous and easily stained and etched. This board is full of renovators who love marble but either canâÂÂt get up the nerve to make the plunge because of all the scary stories they have heard or (like me) have spouses who donâÂÂt want to hear us sob hysterically when the first stain appears. From the description of the period of your home, IâÂÂm not sure marble is the best fit - but you just have to hit the kitchen stores and slab places to see what you like. Also $ is a factor. Marble is not that expensive - at least here in Southern California. Good luck!...See MoreVote on my counters: Soapstone or Marble?
Comments (30)Red- Can you post your kitchen plan? It would be helpful to see where the range is, the windows, etc. I don't think the marble (or marblesque) tops are going to work with the range...as mentioned earlier. But I'm not sold on all dark countertops. You said the island might be wood top...if I remember correctly, it's pretty big. Let's see the plan and maybe a combination of surfaces would be the way to go. Perhaps soapstone on each side of the range (depending on layout) with marble-type, lighter counter around the sink...under the windows. I'd love to see marble and wood on the island, if that's where you'll be baking. But only if you're really okay with PATINA. With marble, I don't think you can say patina (in a soft voice) if you know what I mean :) How's the build going? I miss seeing all your posts on the Building forum! Oh...pantry shelves. What color are you using in the kitchen? It might be fun to do something a bit crazy on the shelves of back of the pantry. Like red, if you're using red accents in the kitchen...or blue. Something that pops, but is easy to change down the road, if you change your mind. This post was edited by lavender_lass on Tue, Nov 18, 14 at 14:42...See Moreromy718
