Need Granite Color Suggestions Plz
Comments (8)Looking for a color is best done by getting a list of places to visit where you would select your slabs for your project. Take along paint, fabric, stained wood, tiles, anything you have that you love or must work with. Bring a camera to take photos of the name and of the slab b/c you will get confused later if you find many that interest you. Notes aren't as helpful. If you are looking for something with patterns or that is not mostly black or white, you will quickly notice various slab companies can name granite slabs as they choose and that one slab of lapidus brown, for example, is not quite the same as a lapidus at another place. One company may use the term Colonial Cream and another Colonial Dream. Slabs of the same name may have peach or pink tones or brown tones and you can't believe two slabs from different quarry locations can even have the same name. If you need two or more slabs, it's good to jot down the specific numbers of the slabs so if you wish to hold them later, you will get the specific ones you viewed. I also found it didn't matter that I had not narrowed down who I would work with when my husband and I began the process of finding granite we would both like and that would pull together our home. Some fabricators will show you the 10 basic colors they feature at the lowest possible prices. However, if these are boring to you and you really get excited about the possibilities of walking through warehouses of large unique slabs of granite, you need to find a fabricator who can price out these slabs based on your measurements. If you aren't offered this chance to select your slabs, consider working with someone else on your countertops to at least give yourself the most options. Gosh, the cabinets will be a perfect back drop for almost any granite that has some browns and neutrals. I had estimates of base prices from several companies thinking I would select a basic color but once my husband and I went into the warehouses in our area we were hooked on finding truly unique slabs that had a "wow" factor. These slabs had a dominate river of colors. We showed photos to the fabricator we seemed to prefer. He immediately knew we'd need more material to carefully piece the parts of our kitchen together to show off this river. After discussing the project, we knew we had the right type of person who would be particular in showing off the highlights of the slabs we wanted. His workroom had similar projects underway. This takes a lot more time than you would think!...See MoreUrgent help needed selecting granite color for Maple Honey Spice
Comments (36)Hi, everybody: It finally happened. The kitchen is done and I believe the colors and contrast match perfectly. Like most everyone else, we'll live with it for a while before deciding what do to with the backsplash. Again, thanks everyone for helping us deciding the contrast that was best for us. Joe Ps. Her's a link to the pictures and there is also a before and after set. http://www.flickr.com/photos/joe_p Here is a link that might be useful: Kitchen remodel...See MoreVerde Butterfly versus Uba Tuba
Comments (11)Thanks everyone. I spent some time last night looking at the finished kitchens blog. In the pictures, I liked both the Uba Tuba and Verde Butterfly. We got the "firm" numbers for our kitchen yesterday, so we're now looking to cut costs. I need to call floor dude. He's the one who has the supply of Uba Tuba. He privately imported a rather signficant amount of it last year. So, I need to get numbers from him, and then see when we can look at it. I'm pretty willing to do whatever DH wants here. My preference ran more to the brown granites, but DH seems to love the darker granites. Since he's letting me make the call in most other areas (with the exception of the layout!!), I'll defer to him on this. Compromise. Our GC is also going to take the floors out of the bid and let us purchase them and install them on our own. That will save a significant amount as well. We'll also paint. We had chosen a backsplash, but now I'm questioning it. I'm going to really try to hold off as long as I can. I'd really like to see what the kitchen looks like with the cabs in first. Thanks for your opinions!...See MoreNeed colour ideas for maple kitchen
Comments (8)Thanks everyone for your helpful comments! nuccia: Your kitchen almost makes me want to do blue instead of red. I especially like your blue-and-stainless tile backsplash! mbarstow: Your plan sounds great, however I think fabric patterns scare me even more than bright colours. ;) But we were planning to put a painting/print on the big wall, so perhaps I could use the same idea with that? sailormann: Those are very interesting ideas. I think making the room a bit shorter is not the worst thing (I think it's about 13 feet at the highest point?) But I do like the idea of unifying the space with the same colour. abbycat9990: I love your kitchen! In fact, it is one of my inspirations for maple/red/dark counter look. Red tiles mixed into the backsplash sound less overwhelming than doing all red too. bluekitobsessed: I can't believe you're giving advice for a red kitchen! ;) Your granite is gorgeous, and I love how even your range knobs are blue. Did you pick it out for that reason? I think we have found our pendant lights, at last. After all the lighting stores and catalogues, would you believe we found them at Lowe's? And DH and I both like them which pretty much never happens. ;) I found a possible inspiration photo - do you think these colours would look good with my cabs? The red would be on the accent wall only, and the rest perhaps a putty/greenish colour? Now, what to pick for the granite??...See Morebadgergal
