Our tea is in the wall cabinet to the right of the stove. We have several Teavana tins and they are labeled on the side.

I wound up switching all but my every day teas (Mate Vana, Rooibos Chai) to their small tins (only about 3.5 inches high).

They don't sell them in the store and I don't see them online right now, but you can get them somewhere else: ie: Pleasures of Tea
and Special Teas

They only store 1/4 lb of tea but then I can have more choices on hand.

Then I store those on a lazy susan inside the cabinet next to my big tins, but you can absolutely store the big tins in their side. I take them with me on trips from time to time and I've never had a problem.

As an aside once I decide if I like a tea, I prefer to buy it online because it comes in a sealed package with a ziploc seal, so I don't have to worry about it going bad before I can drink it if I don't have an available tin.

I think I will go elsewhere for smaller tins. The sales staff at South Coast Plaza must get a bonus for selling the one pound tins. I can't continue to add new flavors in that size tin so I will check elsewhere as you suggested.

A pound of loose tea is, or can be, a huge amount. If it's the tea you drink every day, it might be OK.

It's waaaay too much to drink if you like to have a few different of kinds to choose from.

And a big tin with a little in it surrounds tea with air, which doesn't help freshness at all.

Like spices, teas are best bought in small quantities and used fairly quickly. Particularly the fruity or spicy flavored teas. They can also get bugs.

Don't they sell smaller tins? I looked on the website. They are pretty.

Yes growlery, 1 pound is a lot of tea. I never fill the tins but that is the only size they carry at the OC mall I go to. Believe me I have asked!

It's also a good point that the smaller amount surrounded by air would hasten the spoilage. Thanks, I guess I will buy smaller ones. Anyone want to buy my $7.00 tins? Lol

I bought my tea tins from Specialty Bottle. They have several sizes of tins to choose from and the prices are remarkably low.

I discovered Specialty Bottle when they were mentioned in the great thread on storing spices and I bought glass spice jars that fit my drawer nicely.

I have a large shallow lid drawer under my lower oven (close to the floor) and I have about 16 loose leaf teas in small vintage looking original tins laying on their side. I have a 2-tiered large display stand I set my teas on, but it breaks down flat and I store it there too...along with my strainers, etc. The secret is to keep things airtight to keep it fresh.

Thank you for the links. Teavana has now made me mad that they pressured me to buy the monster tins at such a high price and call it the "value tin." I will be replacing them with the smaller, easier to store tins.

As far as I know, Teavana stopped selling the smaller tins a while ago. I love their tea but I will not shop at their store in Roosevelt Field Mall (Long Island, NY) anymore. Every time I go there they try and pressure me into buying more than I need. Not only that but when I tell them specific weights (ie:, 2oz, 4oz...) they always shovel as much as they want into the bag and don't let me see the weight. They're extremely pushy and I'm not havin' it. I'll only purchase their tea online from now on.
