call your local cabinet shops !

A regular cabinet is not that unusual, I've seen them online (I think they're called "Peninsula" cabinets). However, I don't recall seeing a drawer that works both ways. There must be a drawer glide somewhere that works both ways, all you (or your cabinetmaker) have to do is find it!

Has anyone here ever seen a 2-way glide?

I'm doing something similar: one end of the cab run between kitchen and dining will house drawer refrigerator and microwave [accessible only from kitchen] but also dish and silver storage accessible from either.

If you are doing a custom cab, the simple sloution would be to use a 12 or 18 inch cab with doors on each side, no drawers. In that case, a silver caddy would be a good idea:

I suspect that a full 24 deep cab would be inconvenient to access from both sides without using drawer glides, but they are available several places, including here:

As to cost, wellll.... the solution of using a shallow cab with doors on either side shouldn't be too bad. Since it will need twice as many doors and thats the pricey bit, I'd guess it will be around twice what a similar, single sided cab would run.

But if you go with a deeper cab with several double action pull outs, I think the cost will be considerably more than double. It isn't that the glides are that expensive or that you'll need twice as many drawer fronts, its that the piece itself will be more unusual. The drawer faces need to be full inset with 'reliefs' so they can be drawn through the cab when the other side is opened.

But hey, you might find a local cab maker with a creative bent that really likes a challange...

I saw drawers that could go both ways in a magazine once(at the beginning of this process), but I couldn't find matches in a google search using "pass through drawer slides" or "pull through drawer slides." I do remember that you needed inset doors to make it work which wasn't a look I was going for.

I found a drawer slide that would work for a silverware drawer, but it's only rated for 35 lbs, so you couldn't do dish drawers, unless they were really shallow or tiny.

Would it work if you were to use a double sided peninsula cab but then get drawers/glides for a 12" cab for the drawer? That's assuming you want doors on the bottom and a drawer up top. The other simpler solution, is to use 2 12" deep door or drawer units back to back. Why not even do that but remove part of the backs of the cabs by the doors so you can have full depth access. Just a novice thought I'm sure.

penninsula cabs--thanks,,i knew i'd seen them somewhere in my travels. and thanks for the drawer slide link,,i'll print it out and head over to the cabinet shop. i like the idea of two 12" base cabs back to back for the dishes,,it was the pull through drawer for flatware which has me stumped. remodelfla,,that was just what i was thinking of---i'm going to see if i can buy a pair of matching base cabs with doors and a single drawer and have it retrofitted with the backs removed and the pull through slides installed. i have a very talented neighbor who loves to tinker with stuff,he may like this challenge. if i --no,,when i get it done,i'll post pix. thanks for your help!
