Sorry you have given up on the slate. May I ask why? Wonder if you have the same concerns as everyone else.

I can't remember if I mentioned on your previous post that I am installing PA slate that I ordered from Big Penn Slate Co. Couldn't believe that it came via UPS!

My concerns do include how will I like the "patina" over time, but mostly it is concern over ordering over the internet and managing to get it installed and finished. To be in my budget I would have to order from M.Texeira and install myself.

If there were to be a clear cost savings that might motivate me to go for it, but since I can get acceptable granite locally for about the same price I just don't feel that I want to put the energy into the slate.

It has been hard to decide because I mostly don't love granite and really only like a few varieties -- and the ones that I like the best are either in short supply or over my price range (River white--short supply; honed Jet Mist which looks a lot like soapstone--too costly)

So, I am settling for less than "love it" and reminding myself that anything is going to be a vast improvement and I likely really will be just fine with it after a while!
