Does your sink have any sound dampening on it? Our Blanco had next to none, so I went to Best Buy's car stereo installation section and bought sheets of Dynamat, cut them up, and stuck them on the bottom of the sink. Disclosure: I never had the opportunity to do *Before* and *After* tests to see whether the noise was effectively dampened and/or the sink retained heat any better. Folks on the Forum swore by Dynamat, and since it involved less than a $30 investment, I figured it couldn't hurt.

Thank you My3dogs (this is my first post here so I am not sure if you will know I am replying to you.....the last time I looked at GardenWeb it was not part of Houzz...) I ADORE the Danby marble in my original post picture with the vintage sink. And I am not a 100% sold on Quartz/Quartzite but my concern is we have soapstone now and I am not pleased with it. A guest comes over and sets a casserole dish down and then pulls it out and it scratches. My "hard on equipment" husband unloads the dishwasher and drags a dish by the edge and it dings. I did like a white granite and thought it may be more durable than the soapstone but then researched the quartz or caesar stone and it seems bulletproof. The 'carrera" caesar stones look very marblesque. But I do love the look and feel of marble and so many on this forum have said it is NOT that hard to care for. Another dilemma! I believe I will have my husband make me a ply wood counter as funkycamper suggests....to try out the sink. I also need to research the faucets and get the sink resurfaced if I do decide on it (and I think I will always be sad if I don't..)

I realize a 4 hole faucet system is the best option but each I have looked at seem so light weight when compared to the single hole systems. In fact, I have one at home how for comparison. The actual faucet in so thin compared to the others. Does that make sense?

You have to measure the diameter of the existing sink. Without removing it you might have to craw under the sink and take measurements to see if it is feasible to fit the top mount sink you like. You will also have to check to see if your existing hole is smaller than the sink you want since it will be a top mount sink unlike the existing wich part of it is under mount. Also your plumber will have to seal the sink and counter joints to make sure there is no leakage. It's difficult but it can be done. Just so you know that the sink you are intending to use is top mount and will add height to your existing vanity.... In order to measure you have to measure the existing hole from left to right and front to back and compare that to the specs of the sink you want to make sure that the existing hole is smaller than the sink etc. You might have to fill the opening with piece of plywood to help reinforce the new sink. Please check with your plumber to see if this is doable in your case. Good luck. Best option is to get a stone top and do it right. have you checked local granite fabricators? They usually have remnants (left overs from other jobs) that you might be able to use at a reduced price without having to purchase a slab... Good luck!
