I have 5 and wish I had more. Well actually, strictly speaking they are not toe kick draws alone as they use some of the space above the toe kick as well, but they do go almost all the way to the floor. We put 2 of them in the butlers pantry, without handles - they can be pulled open with your toe, and I love those. No one knows they are there and they are great for storing big items that need to be kept flat. One has platters, the other has my 1000 sheet package of parchment paper and my 5000 cupcake liners. Then I have another under my double ovens where we store foil containers and other baking goods. A fourth one forms part of the drawer system I have for can storage and the final one turned out to be a bit of a waste. It's in the dish drawer and because the fit of the dishes is tight, having a ledge in the drawer didn't work so dh filled that one in with scrap wood. It would have been better to put that one under the cooktop where the toekick space could have added to the drawer height and allowed storage for extra big stock pots. My cabinets were all custom built by Ayr cabinets out of Nappannee IN. They ship worldwide. Open... and closed... Oh, please excuse the construction dust.

Wow! Thanks for the feedback! Putting the cabinets on top of the hardwood flooring will make the logistics of the toe kick drawers easier. I was worried about installing the cabinets first, the floors next and then not being able to open the toe kick drawers because the floor was in the way. Cabinets on top of flooring will mitigate any issues for the next rounds of homeowners. The current floor, and whatever is underneath, have been installed over the last 85 years. The bottoms of the original cabinets are now below the current floor level. Check out the picture. (I know that getting the voids filled, floors level, etc. will be great fun.) I hate wasting $ on hardwoods under the cabinets, but there aren't lots of cabinets anyway, hence the need for toe kick drawers. I will also look into plywood or another material as an option, but hardwoods would be the most straightforward option. Breezygirl, that's a brilliant idea about trying out higher countertops with stacked cutting boards. I will be getting extra vegies at the farmer's market tomorrow. I have looked at lots of pictures of and feedback about the drawers. Gemcap, how do you like yours? Did you do the ones in the picture? I want some that are mostly invisible for that stuff you don't want burglars to find quickly. is this a problem for crawlers? Not for the slides I have installed. A crawler wouldn't be strong enough to push the drawer in. A strong toddler might be able to, but their face would most likely be above the drawer line. If the drawer has something in it, it pops out slower and not as far. An empty drawer will pop out quicker and farther, but there's no mass so it also takes less to stop. How high is the inside of the drawer? I'm thinking that it's about 2 1/2"? Is that right? Mine drawers are 2.25" deep. But there is about 2.5" of head room. Did you use the transparent contact paper over the entire front of the toekick drawer? I wrapped the entire drawer front. Do you have to push in around the center area or can you push it anywhere along the bottom for it to come out? You can push anywhere on the face of the drawer, which is why I wrapped the entire drawer front with transparent contact paper.

kitchen - funny story re the toe kick drawer. I was home when the cabinets were being installed ( by an installer independent of the cabinet maker)but I was in and out through the day. I came home to find him doing the island and he made a comment about the toe kick drawer. He didn't know it was there and when he realized what it was he thought it was pretty neat and mentioned he almost ran the toe kick piece over top of it. I thought uh oh because he had already installed the microwave base cabinet and there is another toe kick drawer under it. I told him this and his face sorta fell. He did put a toe kick under the microwave base but it was real easy to remove it. I am sure if your installer is the same person who made the cabinets this will not be an issue - just glad I was home to catch the slip.
