The Ann Sacks Heath Tiles arrived today - Pics

We received our Ann Sacks Heath ceramic tiles today. They look incredible!!! They give the contemporary edge that I was craving, since they are matte and 2"x8" which is a "skinny" twist on the usual 3x6 subway tile. I definitely want to go with the running bond pattern rather than the askew raking stretcher bond...I love this tile. It looks like really good quality, and I was impressed with how well they packaged it.

The elongated shape of the tiles matches well with our long open shelving.

The Chalk White colour is perfection.

They look beautiful. Cant wait to see your kitchen when finished, it looks beautiful so far. You have made some wonderful choices. Love these tiles and goes great with your gorgeous granite!!!

I agree; it looks terrific and complements your granite beautifully. A perfect example of how sometimes less is more.

My experience was as follows: I called Ann Sacks and asked for some samples for my backsplash. Six weeks passed and I had not received the samples. I called back several times and on the third call, he finally sent my samples, overnight. I said I was ready to place my order about a month after I received the samples and the sales person never called me back, didn't ask the right questions. I spoke to the Manager of the store in Georgetown and he was apologetic, but even his follow up was awful. I placed my order, yet needed more items--follow up was awful. I left several messages for the Manager and he never even bothered to call me back. When I received my order for 6 bullnose pieces, there were only 4 pieces in there. Again, in this economy, I'm ASTOUNDED by poor customer service. My $800 order may not have meant enough to them to provide outstanding customer service. I loved the tiles, and wanted to give an American made product my business, but you cannot excuse poor customer service. Even the manager's voice mail says he'll call you back at "his earliest convenience". Apparently, his earliest convenience is never, because I had to call their corporate office this morning in order to get him on the phone--four days after I left him a message. I don't ask for a lot, but follow through and good customer service are essential! So, yes, their customer service is the worst ever. And I wanted to spread the word.

Livnlife I admire you for tackling such a small ball and I love it with the iridescent glass background. Eklypz, I can't believe this is your first Van Gogh glass!!! Diamondjennie, your ball looks so dainty and elegant. Flagtruck, using cup handles to make a built in stand for that gorgeous ball, was absolutely brilliant!!! Angie_DIY - That tile looks really "old school"! But, I think the wallpaper totally trashes the tile. In case anyone is keeping track, I now own 4 kilns. I have promised my husband I will reduce it to 2! :) Anyone want a cheap kiln to make their own tile? We are almost done with the kitchen. I have never been so relieved to start painting a kitchen in my life! Wow, we have worked on this a whole year. The worst part of the whole project is behind us - grinding down the concrete so we can put down the bamboo flooring. Here is a tip. If you take tile off of concrete, which is messy enough, you will also need to use a grinder to make the floor completely flat again. In hindsight we should have done it when we pulled up the tile. Anyway, I found that wrapping my cabinets in that plastic they use to wrap pallets with (comes in a roll) keeps the dust from sucking in through the cracks and getting all over the dishes and silverware.

Having the tile matched wasn't hard. It was actually the manufacturer who suggested it when I sent in a second order (because the tile store didn't order more than a small sample). I sent off a chunk of the granite as well and put blue tape around the gold tone I was after. It was easier on the original granite it was matched to "Vulcan Gold" which was just about 1/3 gold 1/3 black and 1/3 white. So highlighting a gold area was simple. (It's really an amber color but gold is the easiest description). Now on that glass. I went to the normal glass places and didn't see anything other than smoke or bronze colors and the usual bubbles or stripes :) But then I saw someone's kitchen on GW and asked where she got her glass...and she told me to go to a stained glass supplier for glass. Literally hundreds of choices in plate glass...texture, no texure, color, etc. And the best part...Don't tell ok? :oP It is cheaper than the glass I was going to get at the glass store, and they do all of the install etc. :o) The piece is in picture 3 and 4 (I bought ohh 40 sample colors and then matched the best one to the cabinets and the granite). It dosen't photo well, but it's a waterfall style in a soft amber/gold with texture on one side and no texture on the other. Lit, it's gorgeous (the cabs are lit) but does not show everything in the cupboards, which is what I wanted because only the top shelf is meant to be somewhat seen and the rest will hold daily stuff, including cans of whatever comes in cans :o) I was thinking today that I can almost be confident we'll have a house soon...and maybe it's about time for me to start my "30 day count down" blog. Now where does one "blog" (I'm trying to catch up with the rest of the world). I can only be funny and sarcastic 30 days in a row, then have to recharge with a week long binge on Ben and Jerrys so this week is the time to start! I love the name Pussycat lounge...though that leaves our poor Kilroy (the dog) out LOL so I think I'll have to keep working. Perhaps another post :oP

They are really nice. I had Ann Sacks tile in my backsplash in my previous kitchen. Really simple tile, similar color in a square tile, with a sage green tile in a checkerboard pattern. That tile was one of my favorite things in my kitchen. The simplicity is perfection. I think it will be perfect.

Margie - We need to wait until our range hood cover is fixed, and our cabinetry maker has been busy with other work. I hope the backsplash will be in in a few weeks, fingers crossed.

Acountryfarm - I wish I could just do carpentry so I could finish our kitchen myself! ;-)

Mustbnuts - Ooo, a virtual tour. I think I read a past post about that. That would be cool. My husband's a techhie. I'm sure we could pull something together for you!!

Last decision - whether we should do a herringbone pattern above the cooktop or keep it all simple. I'll post some mockups so all of you can help me decide. Yea!!

Love it! As you said, it is the exact look you were going for. Personally, I would keep the same pattern behind the cooktop if you want to keep that "modern" look. I think herringbone reads traditional. That being said, I don't think there is a right or wrong answer.

Organic_nettie - Our granite is Bianco Antico and it has cream, greys, bronzes and some bits of a pinky red. Our flooring is red oak stained in a dark brown colour. Here's a photo of our finished floors:

Malhgold - Good point! Herringbone does tend towards more of the traditional. I wonder if our designer could come up with a funky pattern? I don't want to distract though...and I'm afraid I'll get tired of anything too unusual.
