No scooping of a frameless cabinet unless you install a LOT of additional support to take the weight of the heavy counter and heavy sink full of water. And for those corner cabinets that don't go all the way into the corner, you should always make sure that there is a cleat on the wall at the rear to support the weight as well. If you want a large corner sink, then a 42" sink base will just barely accomodate a full sized 33" sink. But only if you push it back further into the cabinet than is normal. Instead of the typical 3-4" inches from the front, you're talking 6"-8" back. That's bad on your back. The other alternative choice when planning a corner sink is to take a regular sink cabinet and install it on the diagonal. That does eat up a bit more space unless you recess the sink cabinet into the corner a bit. I find sinks done that way awkward to use personally.

As long as you have plenty of wall space on both sides of the corner you can. E.g., if you put a 36"W sink base in the corner, you will need approximately 56" of wall space on each side. I don't think the back of the sink base has to be completely open...they cut through the back of mine to get the plumbing to the sink. However, I will defer to Live_Wire_Oak on this one since I only know what my cabinet was like and she knows more about cabinets than I do! My cabinet is an actual 36" corner sink base. The 36" refers to the amount of wall space it takes up, not the size sink. A 36" sink would not fit...I think the maximum size sink that would fit is 22". The diagonal front that you stand in front of is approximately 17" and I am putting in a 15-3/4" square sink (w/one corner cut off). Mine is a prep sink, not the main sink. Marandall did something similar to what you want to do. If you email me off line (see "My Page"), I will send you the saved thread in an MS Word document that includes several discussions and Marandall's pictures of her sink layout, it's surrounding area, and measurements. Note: Marandall has a 30" apron sink so you will have a wider sink base. Her sink is also recessed into the cabinet run so it is closer to the walls.

Hello everyone, I wish I could b as handy with computer and posting pics as you guys all are. This is so very useful and helpful. I am a very visual person. @Autumn, you have great ideas, about placing the DW and sink on outside wall. I appreciate your advice re protecting the work triangle. @mammag...your comments and input are valuable indeed...I am open to a prep sink, even though I have never used had or used one. Prepping on the is.and and facing dining/living room is great and what i am used. My current set up leaves me prepping both on island which has no sink, as well as on the counter between stove and sink. When one space gets too crowded, I use the other space. This is not bad, but can be improved. By the way, the architect, is awesome, and suggested 2 islands...so yeah, he can be congratulated (: @benjesbride..Thank you so much for th visual. I wish I knew how to do that! It's So much easier to understand and to review your thoughts. I love the idea of a pocket door. But am wondering how it will work if I put the stove on that side of the kitchen..I like the fridge on that side though as it's closer to hall which leads to the pantry. I notice u didn't put cabinets over the sink. Mayb I can open up that area, and this will let me see out the front window. !? Keep the comments and ideas coming.
