To me, cabinet hardware is pretty personal and depends on what style you are trying to achieve. That being said, you have dark floors and your cabinets are to be dark, are you sure you want to go w/ a dark hardware such as ORB? I think a nickel or pewter finish would look really good. Check out the FKB to see others' hardware and there are several really good internet sites for hardware that you can narrow down a search w/ style or finish. Good luck!

If you want whimsy and have the budget for it, check out North River Mint, or Anne at Home. NRM knobs only come in antique pewter and antique bronze, quality and detail are amazing, pix don't do justice, and they are budget busters. Igloochic can give details about Anne at Home.

If that's not your style, I would fear that dark ORB knobs would be lost on dark cabinets with a dark floor...JMO.

I agree that ORB will be too dark. I would look at stuff in the silver family. Check the online sites for knobs. There are lots of whimsical ones. I think I saw cute ones on www.topknobs.com. There were asparagus stalks and strawberries, etc.

Hi boopadaboo! Some more of my "plants" arrived today and I thought of you as I saw our youngest cat loving them .... But I'm happy and after I get them organized and placed I'll share photos.

As I was reading your post, looking at pictures and thinking of (the rest of) your lovely home, I thought of either a silvery or (antique) brass finish. Like everyone else, I'm concerned the ORB will just be too dark, and esp. since you're after something whimsical, not something which will disappear.

What do you mean by whimsical? Like bluekitobsessed above, there's another poster here, igloochic, who has heaps of whimsical knobs (here's a thread on which she has a few photos). Is that what you mean by whimsical? Hmm ....

I agree with the others about ORB getting lost against your dark cabs and floors (which are lovely, btw). Maybe brushed nickel? or antique brass?

But before you choose knobs, check with the contractor to see if there are any limitations on what you can get. If he thinks you need to work with the existing holes, do.

I am working with the limitation of using the existing holes unless I want to pay more money. That means that all hardware will be pulls. I don't think it is as easy to be whimsical with pulls as it is with knobs. I think I will end up putting my whimsical knobs in the powder room.

I am going for more of a monochromatic look I think. I linked a thread that discussed this not too long ago.

That being said, I am having a difficult time with the hinges, so I am now thinking of black hardware. Since the appliances are black, I think that might work especially if I get black light fixtures too.
