countertop choice for small island--selling house

Hi,

We redid our kitchen when we moved in a year ago. Everything is done, except that I never could decide on the countertop for the small island (debating between soapstone and copper). I've had a temporary top of Ikea butcher block while trying to decide.

Well, it looks like we may be moving soon. So now we just need to do what will work best for resale. The temporary top was not cut straight, etc so it cannot be used.

The perimeter countertop is butcher block and we intend to leave it. The perimeter cabinets are white (Ikea Stat) and the island is black (Ikea Tidaholm, painted black with beadboard to cover the sides and back--resting on bun feet). The floor is cork, similar in tone to the adjacent oak flooring). The overall feel is cottage.

What I've seen in new houses around here is a lot of stone look stuff, either granite or silestone.

I was thinking of looking for a granite remnant somewhere as the island is only about 3x4. . . .

Suggestions?

Thank you!

Catherine
