Has anyone had a polished slab honed?

This may be my best option to get the VA Mist slabs that I really want for my remodel. I have found a few local fabricators who say they can hone a slab, and I have found some polished slabs that I like. It seems the cost would be about the same as having slabs shipped in from out of the area - if I can even find any.

Im a little unsure about doing it even though the fabricators insist they have the equipment and experience.

Has anyone had a polished slab honed? How did it turn out?

I had my marble honed. It came out perfect. I would trust your fabricators. My fabricator didn't even charge me more for doing it.

I also had my marble honed (it was polished). There was a modest charge of I think $40 for my small piece (it was definitely not a full size slab). I think it turned out great.

If you can find it in the kitchen gallery (I can't seem to find a direct link) at this site (http://www.percocomarble.com/products/kitchens.php) there is a leathered ubatuba with a similar pattern to your blue pearl. I currently have a sample of leathered persian white sitting in my bathroom. So far no staining (& I've been trying to see if it stains) and is relatively maintenance free. Not sure if it is similar to the two stones you mention or not. Good luck!

Most marble slabs CAN be honed by a competent (sp?) fab-ri-mi-cator... I know, because I am one (competent - that is... HA!) With the right equipment, a guy can hone down marble in a flash - marble in most cases - like yours - is way easy to hone !!! You can also go to Stone Inspections.com for an opinion if you need some serious backup for your position in switching fabricators... below is a link to a calacatta oro job I honed a few months ago - I honed the polish down to a 220 grit with Tenax Ager applied, we then cut the sink opening out (in place due to the stone being ca-ca to work with) it turned out pretty nice hth kevin Here is a link that might be useful: Big Island - Honed in Place

Has anyone chosen "ShadowStorm" honed Marble for your kitchen counter?

We are remodeling our kitchen in January and also have a 10 foot island. We have chosen a dolomite marble that is called White Fantasy. In researching this marble, I have found similar marbles called Super White and Shadow Storm. I will try to link a picture of our marble.After doing lots of research on this, I tested a sample with blueberry jam, ketchup, and lemon juice - leaving all on overnight. In the morning, I just washed it off and it looked beautiful. We purchased the stone for the island and countertops and are anxiously awaiting the actual kitchen remodel!! Good luck with your stone!!

Dont know where you live, I was helping my friend in Stamford Connecticut pick her stone, and we saw honed Virginia mist slabs at a granite yard in New York. Its my understanding that they deliver across the state. call and see if they still have it. I goggled their name and found the website, you should be able to get the contact info there.... good luck.
