Insinkerator vs. Quick and Hot from Costco

I want to get an instant hot (filtered) water faucet for the sink, and something that will give me filtered cool water (for taste) so I can get rid of the Britta jug I now use. The Insinkerator 1100 (plus the heating tank) seems exactly right, if I'm reading the literature correctly.

However, for what sems like about the same price, Costco online sells a Quick and Hot Instant Hot Water Dispenser & Cool water Inline water chiller. It seems like just about the same thing, except that the Quick & Hot also chills the water, which means another tank under the sink, and something I just don't need. Cold tap temperature water is enough for me if I can get it filtered.

Another difference is that ISE claims to get the water to 200 degrees - Quick & Hot claims 190 degrees. Is this difference real, or in any way meaningful? of course I would like the water to get as hot as possible

So here's my dilemma. Are these realy pretty much the same thing except for the chilling feature? Can I use the Quick & Hot to filter the cold tap water but shut off the chiller?

It seems like the ISE is what I'm looking for, except that I'm a HUGE Costco fan (love their return policy, and just about everything else), and if I can buy something I need from them I'd prefer that.

Any insight and experience would be very much appreciated.

You mentioned the only differences I am aware of, except that the ISE can add filtered HOT water as well as cold. I don't know if the Q&H has a hot water filter available or not.

Wow, Sue, good catch! Thanks. I just assumed that the hot water was filtered. I didn't even check.

The Q&H Costco sells that's only hot water doesn't seem to have a filter in the picture or in the description; only the the one for both hot & cold water has the filter.

I guess I'll have to wait till Monday morning & speak to someone in customer service at Anaheim, the folks who manufacture the Q&H, unless someone here at GW knows.

450 degrees in just a few minutes (could go higher, but that was more than I needed just testing it). I did take a quick look yesterday at the Kirkland model while picking up food and a grill utensils for Memorial day. Noted the folded metal corners, screws, etc. which made me more appreciative of the Virco quality in welded stainless steel (lid, lip, etc..) that they ground to a perfect edge and fit. One minor thing that I did not like were how easy the utensil hooks can swing out. I will look for a rubber gromet or something like that to slide over the end to keep them in place. Did I mention this unit is heavy? Not near the 450 lb that the Costco claimed, but Virco did not skimp on stainless steel. Double wall doors, lid that feels immense, and a minor detail, but I really like the stainless steel skirt at the bottom as it makes it look permanent vs. portable (even though it has locking casters), and how about that cover bsbbq?! Fully insulated with velcro ties. For those interested, Costco has a Hoffritz (hoffritz.com)6 pc. stainless-steel and black santoprene (like rubber) grill set that includes a large turner, tongs, biiiig fork tipped knife, grill brush, basting brush, and a 10 x 16" (I think) grid grill. Sorry to push Costco, but I checked Walmart while getting some other stuff, and just two pieces (with wood handles) were more, so I am glad I waited.

NXR 30 Range from Costco now up and running

Time for an update. 5 months (to the day) after receiving the NXR, it is finally installed. I ran into issues with cabinets and after exploring all options I could think of, finally gave up and installed the NXR as is. No range hood at this time until a kitchen remodel can be done and that is simply not in the budget anytime soon. The space I had to fit the NXR in is 30 1/8 inches wide. So I was a bit nervous about that. The main problem we ran into was the rear legs digging into the linoleum and stopping rearward progress. The guy helping me had a great idea and we dry soaped a couple of yardsticks, put them under the feet, and slid the range into that tight space. The adjustable feet were not very cooperative. We removed the toe kick and sorta had access to the front feet and no access to the rear feet. We could get one side to adjust, but not the other. The feet would not budge. The mistake we made was sliding the range in place before testing the foot adjustment. So we ended up shimming the left side feet. And finding a level reference was challenging too. I ended up using the oven racks as they seemed to be different from the front lip. I see no signs of any damage to the porcelain. The range was well packed and arrived without incident. I ran the burn in process. That is definitely stinky! And I am amazed at the burner control. From high, there are 3 steps ending in a simmer that looks barely enough to warm your hand. I had to turn off the kitchen lights just to see the flame at simmer. I bought a ChefAlarm and rack clip from Thermoworks to calibrate the oven. I hope to have time to do that soon. Testing oven accuracy Here are some pics of the burners. In the 4 burner shot, the lower left is high, then 1 click down going clockwise until the bottom right is at simmer. So far, I'm quite pleased with the NXR. I just need a new kitchen to go along with it! Edit: one thing I noticed (and it may be entirely normal) is that 30 minutes or so after doing the burn in process for the oven, the top of the oven door and the lip remained too hot to touch. Is that normal?

My husband & I were looking at it, but it is not clear if the water is filtered. We really want filtered water at the sink (& weren't planning on getting heated water). They recently had a system, but when checking it was only offered in chrome finish (I have no idea the brand). It was creating quite a dilemma for me justifying spending 2 to 3 times for purified water to match my "desired" brushed nickel faucets when buying somewhere else. The purified water system doesn't seem to be available now, but this new heated system seems to have a variety of finishes. Not sure if any of this helps. Good luck.

My husband and I bought this mattress in August and I LOVE it. We replaced a conventional mattress we bought a few years ago (Sealy or Simmons which was absolutely horrible), and I wish we'd done it sooner. We were willing to give a memory foam mattress a try because we hadn't been satisfied the last time with a conventional spring mattress, even with traipsing around to mattress stores lying down. It was between a Casper memory foam mattress and the Costco Serafina -- the Consumer Reports review decided us. I will say I've had back problems and prefer a firmer mattress. I love the low movement part -- when my husband gets in bed or rolls over, the mattress no longer dips and takes me with it. And the sheets stay put nicely. I'm dealing with menopause and was more than a bit concerned about the "hot" aspect of a memory foam mattress but it hasn't been a problem at all. We used our old low profile boxspring. We have to buy four new mattresses for our new house and they'll all be Costco Serafinas after our test run this year.

The only reason I went with the ISE was the difference in the temps. Boiling 212 degrees, which makes the hottest tea, and the "right" temperature for tea but too hot to be drinkable for me. I don't know, I just figured with the ISE I could set it lower if I wanted but it would have the ability to go that high if the 190 wasn't enough. I just used an instant thermometer to measure the temp of the water coming out at the factory setting that has been in the tank for a while and it is 180 degrees and is plenty hot for ME for tea, but some people like thier tea REALLY hot. So it depends on you. You might try making a cup of tea in the microwave heating the water to boiling and waiting until it cools down to the maximum drinking temperature for you and then using an instant thermometer to see what it is. Also, the ISE has a 5 yr in-home warantee depending on the model and the Quick and Hot 1 year, although if you get it at Costco that is pretty much a non issue I guess. Of coarse I haven't tried to return something after 3 or 4 years that only has a 1 yr warantee. Keep your receipt, anyway, in case you have problems down the line and they aren't selling them any more.

I love Costco.

On one hand, the costco looks like a good deal-- I've seen a similar cooler without the instant hot on ebay for about the same money.

On the other, I'd like a cooler that is, well... cooler: 39 to 42 degrees isn't as cold as what I get from my frige cooler.

More and more I'm leaning towards the ISE. It has what I want and doesn't have what I don't want. The water chiller tank, even if I can shut it off and just have the filtered cool tap water, will take up a lot of room in the cabinet under the sink.

And I'm sure that tank will turn out to be the source of a leak down the road, even if I don't use it :-).

FYI, I had my plumber add a good manual shut-off valve under the sink just for the instant hot. That way, any leak can be corrected quickly without making the sink nonfunctional and if I decide I don't use it enough in the warmest months I can shut off the water to it, drain it an unplug it in about 2 minutes, and restart it any time I want just a quickly. My plumber thought the extra shut off was a good idea.
