I'm in Maryland, equal distance from all 3 airports and 10 minutes from Andrews. If there's any reason she might need help or a ride or something, check with me. I work at night, so often am available at odd times and would be honored to help.

As a Navy mom, I extend my condolences to you and your family and thanks to your daughter for her service to our country. Have you been in touch with the Red Cross? In military family emergencies, they can cut through alot of the red tape and perhaps they can help get her home. I know when our son was deployed, he said that if there was a death in the family, we were to immediately contact the Red Cross.

Please do contact the Red Cross. They can really help in situations like this. When my father died, we contacted the Red Cross and my brother, who was stationed in Saudi Arabia, was home in 48 hours. Once the powers that be in the military know that there is a family emergency, they are usually very good about getting the service member home as quickly as possible. They do tend to want confirmation of the emergency, so that emergency leave is not taken advantage of--that's where the Red Cross can really help.

Marti, I am so sorry for your loss - it brings back the memory of my FIL and our Navy son, also on a carrier, in 2005.

Please contact the Red Cross, they will get the message to the proper person on the boat, and all that can be done to get your daughter home will happen.

When we made the Red Cross call our son contacted us within 5 hours, on his way to the plane, hoping to see his grampa one more time. He had $300 in his pocket, all donations from his squadron members. He was home within 23 hours of our phone call with him.

We've been on the road since after noon. Dd was able to get off the carrier and has a flight here tomorrow. She's not in the navy. She was on the carrier doing something for her company, I have no idea what. But that made her a low priority getting onto one of the transport flights. I'm betting someone gave up their seat for her when they found out she needed to get here. Hotel rooms are scarce here but we managed to snag 5 rooms for immediate family and brought an air mattress with us, so as long as dd's flight isn't delayed, all is good now.

Thank you so much for your prayers. I'm sure it made all the difference.

I had to finish up the photo thing so thought I'd take a minute to tell you all this. I talked to dd this morning and the "malfunction" was that two airplanes collided on the carrier. She didn't know if there would be any more planes leaving after that. They were told they might have to stay on the carrier until the 10th when the carrier came into port. I told her it was because I had a big group praying for her. Thanks again!
