A bib of marble around apron sink -- any thoughts?

We have a Rohl 30 inch undermount apron sink centered under the 84 inch wide window. We are leaning toward butcher block counters but have been thinking of having a "bib" of marble -- 18 inches on either side of the sink as well as behind it between the sink and the window wall. (18 inches because that brings it to the turn on one side so it is a natural place to end and start the butcher block.) The thinking is that this would be a better choice than having wood around the sink and would break up the butcher block with a bit of marble. This is a vintage kind of kitchen so having something that looks a bit "unfitted" might look more right than long unbroken surfaces. But I have not seen this kind of thing done with a counter. Would appreciate thoughts . . . .and pictures if anyone has seen this.
