you will find that kohler makes a regular sink and prep sink size of some of their pull down faucets..

they have what the call a secondary sink faucet and an entertainment faucet.. the main faucet is 16 1/8" and the secondary version is 14 3/4".. i think either will be what you are looking for.. id imagine other manufacturers have similar lines as well..

We have 2 different brands of faucets for our kitchen and prep sinks. The main sink has a Kohler Simplice (the full size at 16"), and the prep sink has an Elkay Moda pull down, which is about 15". They are at enough distance apart that it's difficult to tell if they are different sizes. I think the Elkay has a thinner profile, so that might help it look smaller. If I hadn't already ordered the Elkay when I found out about the Simplice, I probably would have ordered the 14" Simplice for the prep sink. I actually think I could've lived with the 14" at both sinks.

I want both faucets to be able to wash or fill up large pots, so having a much smaller one at the prep sink wouldn't do me much good.

Thanks, favabeans5, I did see a kohler faucet I liked so I'll look into it more thoroughly. Rhome, do you find think the 14" would fill a pot adequately or would it be too small? Is that primarily a function of the size of the opening in the faucet (the tube?)..? Or should I be looking at some other stat?

Also, OT, Rhome, just wanted to not leave you wondering if I'd forgotten about our conversation about the cabinet elevations: I finally drew them all out in good detail and will probably try to post them for feedback here but I will ask the KD to do the elevation drawings for me in spite of her lack of PC (next time, if there is one, that may be my first question!)...thank you very much for your offer though. I don't know how you can be so generous with your time with such a big family AND remodelling going on! You must be one organized person...thanks again.

Our main sink faucet is quite a bit larger than the prep sink. Personally, I find pull down rinse faucets to be a bit messy, and more suited to a large sink. But then again, I have a pot filler, so I'm not looking for the prep sink to fill big pots.

I have a KWC Systema for the main sink, and a lower profile faucet (gad I think it's Delta??? Gad I don't remember, but a much smaller faucet without a rinse feature) for the prep sink...and a franke for the pot filler. Danze! It's a danze...

I got the Kohler simplice faucets for my kitchen on Ebay. They came in two sizes. the larger one is really easy to find on Ebay, the smaller one is not but it was worth the hunt. I love them!

One thing my plumber had me consider when getting a prep sink faucet was the height from the sink, not the size per se. For a smaller sink, the splash radius can't be as big as in the main sink, so you ideally want a faucet head that's lower to the countertop level.

Like most folks these days I prefer something goose-neckier (I associate those lower-slung ones with the '70's faucets I grew up with), so I sacrificed the pull-down idea for the prep sink and went with a smaller plain gooseneck. But I suppose the functional ideal for a smaller sink would be a lower, longer spout type. You might consider a pull-out rather than a pull-down for that reason?

One great thing about choosing a faucet is that -- unlike most of the remodel choices -- if you really really hate it, you can take it out and install something completely different; they almost all take the same size hole. :)

I do think the 14" would be tall enough to fill a large pot, and the added advantage of the pull-down is that you can pull it out and fill a pot that's sitting on the counter if you have to.

I think the height of the faucet arc does help with tending to larger things like big pots...More clearance to get things into the sink and under the faucet...and, of course, has to do with style preference.

I admit we get water splashed around the prep sink, but it's from hands and other sloppiness not associated with the faucet height. If that were the case, though, I'd choose to wipe up a little overspray rather than deal with avoiding a faucet that's always in the way.

In the mobile home we lived in while we built our house we had a faucet without pull-out or pull-down, and I knew I'd never want that again. It would aggravate me if we didn't have the pull-down capability at the prep sink. I use it far too much and find it way too helpful. Love it for rinsing a strainer full of beans or veggies, and for washing out the sink. It probably saves some of the splashing problems others have, as you can bring the water down into the sink.

I have a funny situation wherein the cleanup sink is DH's terrain and the prep sink is mine and we want very different faucet set-ups--he can't stand the high goose-neck or the "victorian" style and wants only a side spray. I don't want a super modern looking style in my 1930's kitchen but I do want a pull-down on the peninsula-based prep sink, so, big enough to fill a pot and small enough to not block my view :-) Anyway, now that I have some hints as to where to look from you all I'm off to do it....

BTW, Igloochic, I posted a OT question to you on the Conversations forum...re how you're enjoying your coton...if you ever have a moment, maybe you can check it out.

I have the Delta Allora in 2 different sizes. The prep sink version is a little smaller.

Kohler Vinnata....2 different sizes available. But, we went w/Kohler Vinnata (full size) for the main sink & Kohler Fairfax (pullout) for the prep sink.

The Fairfax is a pull out as opposed to a pull down. It actually pulls out further into the counter area than my pull down, but that could be b/c it's closer to the counter. I fill pots on the counter and just hitch the faucet head on the edge of the pot and let go....I can do something else while it's filling. I can also put pots in the sink and use the faucet there....but then I have to lift it up to the counter...easier to fill on the counter and just move over to cooktop.

I also wanted to add a heads up so you don't make the same mistake I did. I bought a Showhouse main faucet and the matching bar/prep sink one. The smaller faucet does not swivel like the large one; it is fixed in place. This is a major peeve of mine so I thought I would alert you to the fact that sometimes the smaller faucet may not swivel.

The Allora and Vinnata are too big for DH but I was looking at the Fairfax today--the one with the side spray...the pull-outs to me somehow seem un-ergonomic, as if too much of the unit is stiff. But I do like the style. It remains on the list. I also found both a pulldown and a sidespray version in the Delta Victorian with the pulldown being "only" 14 inches high and the style not "too old-fashioned" for DH. I think tomorrow I'll go to Home Expo and handle a few of these, including the pull-out styles to see if I change my mind on that.

Hi I have a KWC Inox at my main sink. It is pull out, all stainless steel and seems very comfortable so far - very smooth. It has a lockable spray mode. For my prep sink, I have a New Form (Italian) XT, a goose neck, but not too tall with a pull down head so I can use it to clean the sink, etc. No spray though. They both swivel I love the way they both look, and so far how they function.

Hi gailrolfe, We have the Grohe for our prep sink, I just love it. Its in the super steel finish.The style we have doesn't have that bump on the left side of it, it's just flat, on the left side. Here's the link.
