pot filler
Comments (39)datura - As food for thought, you might also look at the Moen Showhouse line. In the remodel at our previous house, we looked at the Franke's and Rohl's and they were very nice and expensive. We went with the Rohl and it was indeed very good looking and very well made but the valve stops were not as clean as I would have expected given the price especially in the hand held sprayer (driped a bit sometimes). The hand held sprayer of the Rohl was very heavy...solid brass with a brushed nickel finish and quite impressive to hold. However, the only problem was that, when using very hot water, you had at the very most 20-30 seconds before the sprayer was too hot to hold without a hot mit. I never even considered that in my grand plan. Anyway, in our new house, we went with the Moen Showhouse Felicity line. I do not particularly like the fixtures with the pull out spouts so I was looking for a fixture that would accomodate large/tall pots and pans etc. The Showhouse Felicity is very tall with a very broad reach. It does have a composite hand held sprayer so its not as hefty as the more expensive Rohl but you can use it as long as you like without using a hot mit. The Showhouse is not cheap but a bit less than at least than the Rohl we used. By comparison, the Rohl (can't remember the model but it was similar to the Moen in style) was about $650 while the Moen was about $550. Also, if you want to improve the water flow and speed to fill your big pots, simply remove the water restrictor from any of the models and it will fill just as fast as most if not any pot filler....See MoreRecipes for dumpling wrappers?
Comments (8)dumpling wrappers, potstickers, dim sum, and wontons are not synonymous. Dumpling wrappers, almost always round but occasionally square, are thicker than wonton wrappers, which are always square. potstickers are dumpling wrappers filled with a rich filling, folded over and pinched and then cooked in a very special way -- they are put onto a hot pan with a bit of oil, seared to brown and then covered in a bit of liquid to braise under a cover until the liquid is all gone and the dumplings literally "stick" to the pot. dim sum is a collective phrase for a great many "appetizer-like" foods, some of which are "dumplings" but not exactly the kind of dumplings made with dumpling wrappers. wontons refers to the thin square wrappers or to the wrapper with filling. They can be small or large and they can be boiled/steamed or deep-fried. The extra large ones are best truly steamed over gentle heat. For deep-frying, the smaller, the better. Here's my favorite "dumpling filling" recipe to put into wontons or dumpling wrappers (given to me by a little Chinese grandmother about 25 years ago in L.A.; true): DUMPLING FILLING Makes 12 to 24 1 pound ground pork -- shoulder 1/4 pound shrimp -- finely chopped 1 small bok choy -- chopped 1 egg 1 teaspoon cornstarch salt -- to taste 1/2 teaspoon sugar 2 tablespoons sesame oil 1 tablespoon water 1 teaspoon ginger root -- grated 2 stalks green onion -- chopped Chop bok choy coarsely and cook in boiling water for 5 minutes. Drain by placing in cheese cloth and squeezing out all water. Chop finely. Combine pork, shrimp, egg, cornstarch, salt, sugar, sesame oil, water, and ginger. Mix well. Add bok choy and chopped green onions. Put small teaspoon-fulls into won ton wrappers or larger tablespoon-fulls into dumpling wrappers. Boil them gently in water or chicken stock until floating. Dumplings can be boiled (steamed) or braised (fried). Or you can freeze them stuffed raw for later use. Joe...See Morebeekeeperswife & others: Height of Pot Filler
Comments (15)I never thought of that! I just picked up our pot filler today so I'll have to check the height we originally set to make sure it will be ok with the pot filler we picked out (backsplash isn't in yet!). How high did you install it? Posting that information might help others in the future who see this thread. As for your situation, maybe you could call your plumbing supply store or Delta to see if it would be possible to have a plumber change the handle so it could be horizontal or up in the off position. Or maybe another "link" could be added to the part that bends out to increase the height of that arm?!? I have no idea if any of these ideas are even possible. I tend to grasp at straws when I'm in a similar situation! I imagine moving it would ruin the backsplash and be pretty expensive. I wish I had another solution for you. Hopefully others here will have better ideas!!!...See MorePot filler over Induction range??
Comments (18)plllog The important thing about a pot filler, if your code allows it, is that it has a much higher flow rate than a regular sink faucet, so it fills a big pot quickly. Good to know, thank you. strob06 Gonna have to agree with you on this one. While there are tons of sensors (some notify via an app on your cellphone... which makes me think of the app-to-come which notifies a person if they left their child in a hot car... but yet they can remember to take their phone with them??), and linked auto shut offs, and honestly, we looked into this for the fridge and DW), it gets pricey. Not gonna lie, it would be pretty useful (and yes, a phone app would be handy to rush home and shut off water), but when and where do the add-ons stop? We had to say no to several things which were for function as well as form. Our home safety measures are tailored more to personal safety. kaseki A stainless steel cabinet kitchen with tile walls and concrete floor with drain would not have any water risk. You gave me a chuckle, as I was thinking almost exactly that after I briefly spazzed on the whole wood floor in a kitchen idea (which we are gallantly or foolishly planning to do). Had a terrible water leak at an ice maker copper pipe on a house's wood floor. Found it 3 days later, but got it cleaned up and everything turned out fine in the end - no long-term damage. Other than that, pipes under sinks bursting causing the interior of the cabinet to warp. Problems happen. As individuals, we choose our battles!...See Morelascatx
