Comments (2)I think it may depend on personal preference and how much light you get in the room. You may want to post a picture so people can get a good visual before giving an opinion....See MoreWide plank prefinished solid walnut floor in DRY desert environment
Comments (5)Low humidity is probably worse than high humidity. In high humidity areas it's generally hot so people use HVAC to cool the house, bringing the humidity down to a tolerable level. Even without HVAC wood floors can withstand high humidity. It's the seasonal change in humidity that often causes issues. Manufacturers generally recommend the humidity be above 35%. Below that, the wood can shrink and crack. In dry areas people must install a whole home humidifier (and keep it maintained) to avoid dry cracking. This can happen to solid wood and engineered wood. The same thing is true in hot, dry areas and very cold areas where the humidity drops to zero in the winter. Your local floor dealer should know this. Manufacturers should know this but they may not know your local conditions and they will take no responsibility if something goes wrong, regardless of how they may advise you now. Wider boards aren't an issue as long as your floor is acclimated properly and the humidity doesn't fluctuate too much. Solid boards over 4" wide are more susceptible to cupping and the wider the board, the greater the potential to develop gaps between boards....See MoreGaps/holes appearing walnut floors
Comments (2)The low humidity is causing the filler to loosen up and come out. The joint gaps are also caused by low humidity. You will need a hygrometer to monitor the indoor humidity and a de/humidifier to make adjustment and maintain normal living conditions between 30-50%. Something that minor, I would leave it alone. If, the gaps become greater than 1/16", then i would increase the humidity level....See Morewalnut flooring
Comments (5)Be aware that walnut will lighten substantially in color with exposure to sunlight. Still neautiful, but a very different color. On a floor you could end up with dramatically different colors in different parts of the room or under furniture and rugs. Likewise with cherry, but it darkens with light exposure rather than lightens....See Moresdmomof3boys
