Would you use a pub table for your main table?

I've talked about my kitchen before--it is very tiny. our 35 by 35 table practically takes up the whole space.

Some on here suggested a stainless steel table. I'll link it now. It is 47 by 23 by something else. The point is, it is very small. DH and I eat on the couch most of the week (tiny city condo). We share custody with my X so the kids are here half time. Today I saw the table and put four plates on it. It is small, but it would open up our kitchen. It is very stylish, but I'm a little afraid of being up high all the time.

Please tell me your experiences of owning a pub table. Can your family sit comfortably?

Any suggestions for chairs to go under it?

I don't have a pub table, but I did notice that the table you're looking at comes in two heights: 35 3/8" and 41 3/8". To me, 35" is fine -- that's counter height.

But the width is a little small to me. I guess you'd have to fill plates at the stove or counter. Probably not a great table for spread-out homework. But I'd be tempted to try it. Some of the Ikea stools come in the right height for that lower size bar table.

Did you see the Bjursta tables they have? They have two pullout leaves -- one table is 35" x 19" and opens to 35" x 35". Comes in 3 finishes. I saw it in 29" table height, but they might have others.

We have one that is about 36" tall and came in a set with chairs that are either bar stools with backs or regular chairs on stilts. Ours is 36x54 and opens to 54x54 and we seat 4-6 closeed or 6-8 open. We love it. Our kitchen is open to the breakfast room and family room, and the tall table helps the flow of one space to another. It's also the only way we could sit at the table and see the TV at the other end of the family room -- which is sometimes important and sometimes not.

Thanks for the responses. DH put the tackiest fixture I have ever seen over the pool table because we hadn't looked for a good one and we wanted the house DONE. That was over three years ago and the ugly thing now bugs me so much (I never play pool) that I want to order a replacement, but didn't even know what to look for. I will search some more. The room is transitional/contemporary with a highly visible big screen T.V., electronics, surround sound, and a little kitchen area. The photo mclarke included would actually work, I think, but it's more Craftsman, Tiffany-ish than what I had in mind. Still. . .

Pepper, your cart idea sounds peachy! I could've used a gardening cart when I had an apartment. Hope you'll post pictures if it ever comes to pass. Florantha, I've come to the same conclusion about the stools. It seems like such a nice idea to be able to hide seating away...but not when it's such a tiny cart with tinier seating. I'm so glad to know your family used a similar old table for much the same purpose! I checked out a local antique store today and came across a few possible options. The one with the best body (sexy legs!) ;) was also a little beat up, but I'm hoping DH will let me know if it's worth saving and if so indulge my refinishing it (since it will distract me from wanting to paint the cabinets).

It's been there so long that dh would probably squawk if it were gone. He does turn it on every once in awhile but I unplugged it one time & it was a couple of weeks before he noticed. And this is terrible but I like the bulk of it because it keeps dh from piling more stuff onto his table. Flowers, even fake, are out because of dh's allergies. When we build our next house, I am going to have wall lamps and very small tables next to the bed. So for now, it's all about getting this place ready to sell.

Thanks for the advice....I will have to experiment with the tiles....the problem I see is that the floor tiles I am using are too thick for the side/edges...the black plastic edging juts out about 1/8", and the floor tiles are much thicker. Plus, if I placed a floor tile piece on the side/edge--with the color side facing out--the top edge of the tile (which would be facing up) has no color on it. I know that sounds confusing...
